Our History

American Airlines traces its roots to 1930, when more than 80 small airlines were consolidated into what would become American Airways. It officially became American Airlines in 1934. Since then, the airline has been a key innovator and pioneer in commercial aviation, introducing:

  • The first computerized airline reservation system (SABRE)
