About American Eagle

A Quick Overview of American Eagle

American Eagle is the regional brand of American Airlines, operating thousands of daily flights that connect smaller cities across the United States, Canada, the Caribbean, and Mexico to American’s global network. As an essential part of the American Airlines Group, American Eagle plays a critical role in providing access, connectivity, and convenience to travelers in communities that are not served by mainline aircraft.

American Eagle services are operated by a carefully selected group of independent regional carriers, including Envoy Air, PSA Airlines, and Piedmont Airlines, as well as third-party partners like SkyWest Airlines and Republic Airways. These carriers operate under the American Eagle brand, delivering a consistent travel experience aligned with the quality, safety, and reliability associated with American Airlines.

Our Mission

To connect America’s regional communities with the world through safe, dependable, and customer-focused regional air service that supports the larger American Airlines network.

Our Role in the Network

American Eagle supports American Airlines' goal of offering seamless travel by feeding major hub airports from hundreds of smaller markets. These hubs include:

  • Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW)
  • Charlotte Douglas (CLT)
  • Chicago O’Hare (ORD)
  • Miami (MIA)
  • Philadelphia (PHL)
  • Phoenix (PHX)
  • Washington, D.C. (DCA)
  • New York (JFK and LGA)

With nearly 3,000 daily departures, American Eagle is one of the largest regional airline systems in the world. It serves over 150 destinations, many of which would not be economically viable for larger mainline jets, thus ensuring widespread access to air travel across the country.

Fleet and Operations

American Eagle operates a fleet of regional jets tailored for short-haul and medium-haul routes. The fleet primarily includes:

  • Embraer ERJ-145 (50 seats)
  • Embraer 170/175 (76 seats)
  • Bombardier CRJ-700/900 (65–76 seats)

These aircraft are configured to deliver a comfortable experience, often including:

  • First Class cabins on larger regional jets
  • Main Cabin Extra seating
  • Wi-Fi and streaming entertainment
  • Consistent branding and service experience as American Airlines mainline flights
