Asiana Airlines Missed Flight Policy

Overview

Asiana Airlines’ missed flight policy is governed by its Terms of Use and Contract of Carriage. The policy outlines options for passengers who miss their flights due to personal reasons or airline-related issues, such as delays or cancellations. Outcomes depend on the fare type, ticket conditions, and the reason for missing the flight. For flights departing from the EU or UK, EU/UK Regulation 261/2004 may apply. Below is a detailed guide on handling missed flights with Asiana Airlines.

Missed Flight Due to Passenger’s Responsibility

If you miss your flight due to arriving late, failing to check in on time, or lacking valid travel documents, the following applies:

  • Non-Refundable Tickets: Most economy fares are non-refunded. If you miss your flight and are marked as a no-show, the ticket value is forfeited, and onward/return flights may be canceled. You may be eligible to refund taxes and fees if requested before the ticket expires (30 days after expiry for international flights; until expiry for domestic flights). A no-show fee of $120–$500 per ticket may apply to reinstate or rebook, depending on fare rules.
  • Flexible Fares: Flexible fares allow changes or cancellations with fees ($100–$420, depending on route and timing) plus any fare difference. If you notify Asiana before departure, you may rebook or receive a travel voucher valid for one year. If you arrive within 2 hours after departure, you may request standby for the next available flight, subject to availability and fees.
  • No-Show Policy: A no-show without prior notification results in ticket forfeiture. For Asiana Club award tickets, missing a flight may lead to mileage forfeiture for the missed segment. Rebooking after a no-show incurs a penalty (up to $500) plus fare differences. Notifying Asiana before departure can avoid no-show penalties.
  • 24-Hour Cancellation Policy: For tickets purchased directly from Asiana Airlines, you can cancel within 24 hours of booking for a full refund (if booked at least 7 days before departure), even for non-refunded tickets. For Korea departures, cancellations 91+ days before departure are also free.
Note: Asiana recommends arriving 2 hours before domestic flights and 3 hours before international flights. Online check-in is available 48 hours to 1 hour before international flights and 24 hours to 30 minutes before domestic flights. Check-in counters close 1 hour before international flights and 30 minutes before domestic flights. Gates close 20–30 minutes prior to departure.
Missed Connecting Flight Due to Airline Delays

If you miss a connecting flight due to a delay or cancellation of an Asiana Airlines-operated flight within the same booking, Asiana will assist as follows:

  • Rebooking: Asiana will rebook you on the next available Asiana or Star Alliance partner flight at no extra cost. If no flights are available until the next day, Asiana may provide hotel accommodations and transport, especially for delays within their control (e.g., mechanical issues).
  • Right to Care: For delays within Asiana’s control lasting 3+ hours, Asiana provides meals, refreshments, and two free phone calls or emails. For overnight delays, a hotel room and airport transfers may be offered. For delays beyond Asiana’s control (e.g., weather), assistance is not guaranteed but may be provided.
  • Compensation: For EU/UK-regulated flights delayed 3+ hours at the final destination due to reasons within Asiana’s control, you may be eligible for compensation of €250–€600, based on flight distance:
    • €250 for flights up to 1,500 km
    • €400 for flights between 1,500 and 3,500 km
    • €600 for flights over 3,500 km
Compensation is not available for extraordinary circumstances (e.g., weather, air traffic control). For U.S. flights, Asiana may offer vouchers or miles as a goodwill gesture, but cash compensation is not required.
  • Refund Option: If you choose not to travel due to a significant delay or cancellation, you may request a full refund for the unused portion of your ticket, including taxes and fees, even for non-refunded tickets. Refunds are processed within 7 days for credit card purchases and 20 days for other methods. You may also request a return flight to your original departure point if stranded mid-journey.
Note: If your connecting flight is on a separate ticket or operated by another airline, Asiana is not responsible for missed connections unless part of a codeshare agreement. Check the operating airline’s policies and retain all receipts for claims.
Steps to Take if You Miss a Flight

If you miss your Asiana Airlines flight, follow these steps:

  1. Provide Booking Details: Have your booking reference, e-ticket number, or Asiana Club membership number ready (available in your confirmation email or Asiana app).
  2. Explore Options: Request rebooking (subject to fees and fare differences) or standby for a same-day flight (if available). For non-refunded tickets, you may request a refund for taxes/fees. For delays within Asiana’s control, request meal vouchers, accommodations, or compensation. Online cancellations can be made via Find My Trip.
  3. Submit a Claim (if applicable): For delays or cancellations within Asiana’s control, file a claim via the Customer Center with your booking reference, boarding pass, and receipts. For EU/UK-regulated flights, claims must be submitted within 3–6 years, depending on the country.
