Overview
Bangkok Airways, Asia’s boutique airline, operates under its Conditions of Carriage and applicable regulations, including EU Regulation 261/2004 for flights to or from the EU and U.S. Department of Transportation rules for flights to or from the U.S. The missed flight policy outlines options for passengers who miss their flights due to personal reasons or airline-related issues, such as delays or cancellations. Outcomes depend on the fare type (Web Promotion, Web Saver, Web Freedom, Blue Ribbon), ticket conditions, and the reason for missing the flight.
Missed Flight Due to Passenger’s Responsibility
If you miss your flight due to arriving late, failing to check in on time, or lacking valid travel documents, the following applies:
- Non-Refundable Tickets (e.g., Web Promotion, Web Saver): If marked as a no-show, the ticket value is forfeited, and the entire itinerary, including onward and return flights, is canceled. No refunds are issued for the ticket fare, but unused airport and government taxes may be refunded if requested. Rebooking after a no-show incurs a fee for economy class or premium economy/business class, depending on the route and fare type.
- Refundable Tickets (e.g., Web Freedom, Blue Ribbon): If you notify Bangkok Airways before departure, you may cancel or change your flight for a fee plus any fare difference. Web Freedom and Blue Ribbon fares offer more flexibility, with lower change fees and refund options. Standby for the next available flight may be requested, subject to availability and fees, which may be waived for FlyerBonus elite members.
- No-Show Policy: A no-show without prior notification results in ticket forfeiture for non-refunded tickets. For refundable tickets, notifying Bangkok Airways before departure allows cancellation or rebooking with applicable fees. For FlyerBonus award tickets, missing a flight may lead to mileage forfeiture for the missed segment.
- 24-Hour Cancellation Policy: Tickets booked directly through Bangkok Airways for flights to, from, or within the U.S. can be canceled within 24 hours of booking for a full refund without penalty, provided the booking is made at least one week before departure. This applies to all fare types but only for direct bookings, not those made through travel agents or third-party platforms like Traveloka or Expedia.
- Name Change Restrictions: Name changes are not permitted. For misspelled names, a refund with applicable fees is required, treating the correction as a cancellation. The same fee structure applies as for promotional or non-refunded fares.
Note: Bangkok Airways recommends arriving one and a half hours before domestic flights and two hours before international flights. Online check-in is available 24 hours to one hour before departure. Check-in counters close 40 minutes before domestic flights and one hour before international flights. Boarding gates close 15 minutes prior to departure. Failure to meet these deadlines results in a no-show status.
Missed Connecting Flight Due to Airline Delays
If you miss a connecting flight due to a delay or cancellation of a Bangkok Airways-operated flight within the same booking, the airline will assist as follows:
- Rebooking: Bangkok Airways will rebook you on the next available Bangkok Airways or codeshare partner flight (e.g., with PG flight number) in the same travel class at no extra cost. If no flights are available, accommodations may be provided for overnight delays due to controllable reasons. Prepaid baggage fees may be carried over to the new flight if changed at least 48 hours before departure.
- Right to Care: For delays within Bangkok Airways’ control lasting two hours or more, the airline provides meals, refreshments, and access to communication (e.g., two phone calls or emails). For overnight delays, hotel accommodations and airport transfers may be offered where available. Assistance is not guaranteed for delays beyond the airline’s control, such as weather or air traffic control issues.
- Compensation: For EU-regulated flights delayed three hours or more at the final destination due to reasons within Bangkok Airways’ control, you may be eligible for compensation under EU Regulation 261/2004, ranging from €250 for flights up to 1,500 km, €400 for flights between 1,500 and 3,500 km, to €600 for flights over 3,500 km. Compensation is not available for extraordinary circumstances, such as weather or strikes. For non-EU flights, Bangkok Airways may offer FlyerBonus points or vouchers as a goodwill gesture, but cash compensation is not required.
- Refund Option: If a delay or cancellation makes travel undesirable, you may request a full refund for the unused portion of your ticket, including taxes and fees, even for non-refunded tickets. Refunds are processed within seven days for credit card purchases and up to 20 days for other methods to the original payment method.
Note: Bangkok Airways does not have interline agreements with all carriers. If your connecting flight is on a separate ticket or with a non-codeshare airline, Bangkok Airways is not responsible for missed connections. Contact the operating airline or booking agent. Retain all receipts and documents for claims.
Steps to Take if You Miss a Flight
If you miss your Bangkok Airways flight, follow these steps:
- Contact Bangkok Airways Immediately: Visit an airport ticket counter, gate agent, or contact the Customer Service Center. If booked through a travel agency or third-party platform, contact the agency directly, as online cancellations or changes are not available for such bookings.
- Provide Booking Details: Have your booking reference, e-ticket number, or FlyerBonus number ready, available in your confirmation email or the Bangkok Airways app.
- Explore Options: For non-refunded tickets, rebooking after a no-show incurs a fee, and a new ticket may be required. For refundable tickets, request rebooking or cancellation with fees via the Manage Booking section on the Bangkok Airways website or app. Request a refund for unused taxes or within the 24-hour cancellation window for direct bookings. For delays within Bangkok Airways’ control, request rebooking, meals, accommodations, or compensation.
- Submit a Claim (if applicable): For delays or cancellations within Bangkok Airways’ control, file a claim through customer service or email with your booking reference, boarding pass, and receipts. For EU-regulated flights, claims can be submitted within three years. Third-party services like AirHelp or AirAdvisor can assist with claims.
