Brussels Airlines Baggage Policy
Carry-On Baggage:
Allowance:
- Economy and Premium Economy Class: One carry-on bag and one personal item (e.g., handbag, laptop bag, small backpack). Total weight limit: 12 kg (26 lbs).
- Business Class: Two carry-on bags and one personal item. Total weight limit: 16 kg (35 lbs).
- Infants (0–23 months): May bring food for consumption on board and one carry-on bag (if needed) within the adult’s allowance.
Size Restrictions:
- Carry-On Bag: Maximum dimensions are 55 x 40 x 23 cm (21.6 x 15.7 x 9 inches), including handles, wheels, and pockets. Must fit in overhead bins or under the seat.
- Personal Item: Maximum dimensions are 40 x 30 x 10 cm (15.7 x 11.8 x 3.9 inches). Must fit under the seat in front of you, except for emergency exit row seats, where it must be stowed in overhead bins.
Liquids and Gels: Containers up to 100 ml, placed in a single, transparent, resealable 1-liter plastic bag. Must be presented separately at security.
Additional Notes:
- Brussels Airlines enforces size and weight limits at check-in or the gate. Oversized or overweight bags may incur a €45 fee per item (payable by card or cash at the Service Desk) or result in boarding denial if unpaid.
- On busy flights or smaller aircraft, carry-on bags may be checked into the hold at no extra cost if within weight limits. Soft-sided bags are less likely to be flagged than hard-sided suitcases.
- For connecting flights with partner airlines, the operating airline’s rules apply. Check policies in advance.
- Star Alliance Gold/Silver members, HON Circle Members, Senators, and Frequent Flyers receive allowances based on travel class.

- Economy Light: No free checked baggage. Purchase first bag online (€15–€70) or at the airport (higher fees).
- Economy Classic/Standard: One checked bag up to 23 kg (50 lbs) and 158 cm (62 inches, L+W+H).
- Premium Economy: Two checked bags, each up to 23 kg (50 lbs) and 158 cm (62 inches).
- Business Class: Two checked bags, each up to 32 kg (70 lbs) and 158 cm (62 inches).
- Infants (0–23 months): One checked bag up to 23 kg (50 lbs) and 158 cm (62 inches), except in Economy Light, where an extra bag can be added to the adult’s booking. Two additional essentials (e.g., collapsible stroller, car seat) are allowed free.
- Star Alliance Gold/Silver Members: Additional allowances based on travel class (e.g., one extra bag).
- Routes to/from Western, Eastern, or Central Africa or between US and Africa: Two checked bags, each up to 23 kg (50 lbs) and 158 cm (62 inches).
Size and Weight Limitations:

- Maximum weight: 23 kg (50 lbs) for Economy/Premium Economy, 32 kg (70 lbs) for Business Class. Bags over 32 kg are not accepted and must be shipped as cargo.
- Oversized bags (up to 292 cm) may be accepted with fees, but must be registered via the Service Centre.
Excess Baggage Fees:
- Extra Bags: €15–€70 per bag if prepaid online, €75–€200 at the airport, depending on route. Up to five additional bags allowed (free allowance + extra).
- Overweight/Oversized Bags: Fees vary by route; check the baggage calculator. Example: €100–€300 for overweight (23–32 kg) or oversized bags (158–292 cm).
- Embargo: No extra baggage allowed on flights from Brussels to Yerevan (Economy except Light, Business Class) from June 15 to September 15, 2025.
Connecting Flights:
- Brussels Airlines-operated flights: Baggage checked through to final destination.
- Partner airline flights: May require picking up and rechecking baggage at the connecting airport (within 24 hours, or 12 hours for United Airlines-operated flights).
Special Items (Sporting Equipment, Musical Instruments, etc.):
- Allowance: Items like bicycles, golf bags, and skis count toward checked baggage allowance if within size (158 cm) and weight (23 kg Economy/Premium Economy, 32 kg Business) limits.
- Specific Rules:
- Ski/Snowboard Equipment: Free if within allowance, except on routes to/from/via US/Canada (€100 per one-way) or Check&Go tickets (€45 prepaid, €50 at airport).
- Bicycles, Golf Bags, etc.: Accepted for a fee if exceeding allowance; register in advance via Service Centre.
- Musical Instruments: Small instruments can be carry-on if within size/weight limits. Larger instruments must be checked, with fees if exceeding allowance.
- Oversized Items: Up to 292 cm accepted with fees; contact Service Centre for approval.
- Non-Accepted Items: Canoes, hang gliders, and items over 32 kg or 292 cm must be shipped as cargo.
- Mobility Aids: Battery-powered wheelchairs/scooters accepted free with advance notification.
- CPAP Devices: Allowed in cabin (must be off during taxi, takeoff, landing); lithium batteries up to 160Wh permitted. Must have sufficient battery power for the flight.
Pet Policy:
- Small dogs and cats allowed in the cabin (in a carrier up to 55 x 40 x 23 cm, max 8 kg including carrier) or cargo hold. Fees: €50–€125 depending on route. Advance booking required.
- Assistance animals travel free in the cabin with proper documentation.
