Edelweiss Air Baggage Policy

Allowance:

Economy Class (Saver, Classic, Flex): One carry-on bag (max 55 x 40 x 23 cm, 8 kg / 17.6 lbs) and one personal item (e.g., handbag, laptop bag, shoulder bag; max 40 x 30 x 10 cm / 15.7 x 11.8 x 3.9 inches).
Economy Max (Premium Economy): Same as Economy.
Business Class: Two carry-on bags (each max 55 x 40 x 23 cm, 8 kg each, total 16 kg / 35.2 lbs) and one personal item.
Infants (under 2 years, no seat): One stroller or car seat free (not counted as carry-on, subject to space). No specific carry-on allowance for infants.
Children (2–11 years): Same allowance as adults based on fare class.

Size and Weight Restrictions:

Carry-On Bag: Maximum dimensions 55 x 40 x 23 cm (21.6 x 15.7 x 9 inches, total 118 cm / 46 linear inches, including handles and wheels). Maximum weight: 8 kg (17.6 lbs). Must fit in overhead bins or under the seat.
Personal Item: Maximum dimensions 40 x 30 x 10 cm (15.7 x 11.8 x 3.9 inches). Must fit under the seat.
Liquids, Gels, Aerosols: Containers up to 100 ml (3.4 oz) in a single, transparent, resealable 1-liter plastic bag, presented at security. Milk and liquid baby food for infants are exempt but must be shown at security (quantity limited to flight duration). Duty-free liquids in sealed tamper-evident bags (STEBs) with receipt are allowed but must be packed in checked baggage for U.S. connecting flights.

Additional Notes:

On flights with 50 seats or less (e.g., smaller aircraft), only one personal item may be permitted onboard due to limited overhead space; carry-on bags may be gate-checked free of charge.
Oversized or overweight carry-on bags incur fees: CHF 40/€40 (prepaid 36+ hours before departure), CHF 48/€48 (within 36 hours), CHF 60/€60 (at gate).
Prohibited items include sharp objects (e.g., knives, scissors, nail files, tweezers, knitting needles), self-balancing devices (e.g., hoverboards), and lighters. Smart bags require removable lithium batteries carried separately (max two spare batteries in protective cases).
Small musical instruments (within 55 x 40 x 23 cm, 8 kg) can replace carry-on. Larger instruments may require a purchased seat or be checked with fees.

Allowance (piece concept for all routes):

Economy Saver (without connecting SWISS flight): One checked bag up to 23 kg (50 lbs). With SWISS connecting flight, no free checked baggage for the lowest fare.
Economy Classic/Flex, Economy Max: One checked bag up to 23 kg (50 lbs). Brazil flights: Two bags, each up to 23 kg.
Business Class: Two checked bags, each up to 32 kg (70 lbs).
Miles & More/Star Alliance Gold: One additional bag (23 kg for Economy, 32 kg for Business).
Infants (under 2 years, no seat): One checked bag up to 10 kg (22 lbs), plus one collapsible stroller or car seat (not both, unlike some airlines like easyJet).
Children (2–11 years): Same allowance as adults based on fare class.

Size and Weight Limitations:

Maximum dimensions: 158 cm (62 linear inches, L+W+H, including wheels and handles). Oversized bags (159–300 cm) incur fees (CHF 420/~$420 for long-haul).
Maximum weight: 23 kg (50 lbs) for Economy, 32 kg (70 lbs) for Business. Bags over 32 kg are not accepted and must be shipped as cargo via Swiss WorldCargo.

Codeshare/Interline Flights:

For SWISS connecting flights booked via swiss.com, SWISS rules apply (e.g., no free checked baggage for Economy Light). For Edelweiss-only flights from/to Zurich, checked baggage is included.
The MSC’s rules apply (typically the airline operating the longest leg). For separate tickets, baggage may need rechecking. Confirm with the operating carrier (e.g., SWISS, Lufthansa).

Allowance: Sporting equipment (e.g., skis, golf bags, bicycles) counts toward free baggage allowance if within weight (23–32 kg) and size (158 cm) limits.
Specific Rules:
- Sports Equipment: Skis, golf bags, fishing equipment, hockey/lacrosse gear, and bicycles are accepted up to 32 kg and 300 cm with advance registration. Fees apply if exceeding allowance: CHF 100–$200, depending on route. Bicycles must be packed with handlebars fixed and tires deflated.
- Musical Instruments: Small instruments (within 55 x 40 x 23 cm, 8 kg) can be carry-on. Larger instruments can be checked (excess fees apply) or booked as a seat (max 20 kg, 135 x 49 x 35 cm).
Non-Accepted Items: Bags over 32 kg or 300 cm, self-balancing devices, and certain hazardous items (e.g., flammable liquids).
Mobility Aids: Wheelchairs, crutches, and prosthetic devices are free with advance notification (48 hours).

Small dogs, cats, and household birds (domestic Switzerland flights only) can travel in the cabin (max 8 kg including carrier, fits under seat). Fees: $125 (domestic), $200 (international, outside Switzerland).
Larger pets (up to 32 kg) travel in the cargo hold; fees vary by route. Advance booking required (48 hours).
Assistance dogs travel free in the cabin with documentation.

Measure bags (carry-on: 55 x 40 x 23 cm, 8 kg; personal item: 40 x 30 x 10 cm; checked: 158 cm, 23–32 kg) and weigh them at home.
Prepay baggage online (up to 4 days before departure) for discounts (e.g., CHF 90 vs. CHF 180 for second bag).
Use soft-sided bags for flexibility, as size enforcement is strict, especially on full flights or smaller aircraft.
