  • Business/First Class, The Residence: Two carry-on bags (each max 56 x 36 x 23 cm, combined weight up to 12 kg / 26.5 lbs; or one bag up to 12 kg for U.S./Canada routes) and one personal item.
  • Etihad Guest Silver/Gold/Platinum: Same as fare class, with no additional carry-on allowance.
  • Infants (under 36 months, no seat): One carry-on bag (max 56 x 36 x 23 cm, 5 kg / 11 lbs) and one stroller, carrycot, or car seat (max 115 cm / 45 inches, 7 kg / 15.4 lbs, free if space allows, otherwise checked).
  • Children (2–11 years): Same allowance as adults based on fare class.

Size and Weight Restrictions:

  • Carry-On Bag: Max 56 x 36 x 23 cm (115 cm / 45 inches total), 7 kg (Economy) or 12 kg combined (Business/First). Must fit in overhead bins or under the seat.
  • Personal Item: Max 39 x 23 x 19 cm, 5 kg. Must fit under the seat.
  • Liquids, Gels, Aerosols: Containers up to 100 ml (3.4 oz) in a single, transparent, resealable 1-liter plastic bag, per TSA/EU regulations. Duty-free liquids in sealed tamper-evident bags (STEBs) with receipt are allowed but may need to be checked for U.S. connections.

Additional Notes:

  • Oversized/overweight carry-on bags are checked at the gate for a fee ($40–$100, depending on route and timing). On full flights or smaller aircraft, large cabin bags may be checked free due to limited space.
  • Prohibited items include sharp objects (e.g., knives, scissors), lighters, and self-balancing devices (e.g., hoverboards). E-cigarettes and up to 10 spare lithium batteries (e.g., power banks) are allowed in carry-on only, switched off, per FAA rules.
  • Additional permitted items: Cameras, baby food, blankets, and reading materials.
  • Musical Instruments: Small instruments (within 56 x 36 x 23 cm, 7 kg) count as carry-on. Larger instruments (max 75 kg, 30 x 117 x 38 cm) require a purchased seat or are checked (max 32 kg, 300 cm, fees apply).
Checked Baggage:

Size and Weight Limitations:

  • Maximum weight per bag: 32 kg (70 lbs). Bags over 32 kg must be shipped as cargo.
  • Maximum dimensions: 158 cm (62 inches) for U.S./Canada, 207 cm (81 inches) elsewhere. Oversized bags (159–300 cm) incur a $100 fee (some sports equipment exempt).

Codeshare/Interline Flights:

  • The MSC’s rules apply (airline operating the longest leg). For U.S. routes, the first airline’s rules apply for the entire journey per U.S. DOT regulations. Baggage may not transfer automatically on separate tickets; confirm with the check-in agent. U.S. preclearance in Abu Dhabi allows bags to be tagged to the final destination without collection.
Special Items (Sporting Equipment, Musical Instruments, etc.):
  • Allowance: Most sports equipment (e.g., golf clubs, skis, bicycles) counts toward the free allowance if within weight (23–32 kg) and size (300 cm) limits. One golf bag is free in addition to the standard allowance.
  • Specific Rules:
    • Sports Equipment: Bicycles (handlebars fixed, tires deflated), skis, and scuba gear are accepted. Fees ($100–$256) apply if exceeding allowance or size. Items over 300 cm must be shipped as cargo.
    • Musical Instruments: Checked (max 32 kg, 300 cm) or carried as a seat (max 75 kg).
    • TVs: Allowed as checked baggage; oversized fee ($60–$100) applies for 40 inches or larger.
  • Non-Accepted Items: Explosives, fireworks, flammable liquids, sharp objects (e.g., knives, scissors), and pets (except falcons and service animals).
  • Mobility Aids: Wheelchairs and assistive devices are free with 48-hour notification.
  • Medical Equipment: Non-refrigerated medications, CPAP machines, and portable oxygen concentrators are allowed in carry-on with a prescription or doctor’s letter, notified 7 days prior.
Pet Policy:
  • Pets (except falcons and service animals) are not allowed in the cabin or as checked baggage. They must be shipped as cargo per UAE regulations. Service animals travel free in the cabin with documentation.
Tips to Avoid Fees:
  • Measure bags (carry-on: 56 x 36 x 23 cm, 7 kg; personal item: 39 x 23 x 19 cm, 5 kg; checked: 158 cm U.S./Canada, 207 cm elsewhere, 23–32 kg) and weigh them at home.
  • Prepay excess baggage online (up to 4 hours before departure for weight concept, 30 hours for piece concept) for up to 65% savings.
  • Pack valuables (laptops, phones, jewelry) in carry-on, as Etihad is not liable for these in checked baggage
  • For codeshares (e.g., Ethiopian Airlines), confirm the MSC’s rules, as allowances may differ (e.g., two 23 kg bags vs. one 30 kg).
  • Use self-service bag drops at Abu Dhabi Terminal A for faster check-in.
Lost, Delayed, or Damaged Baggage:
  • Report at the airport’s baggage services desk for a Property Irregularity Report (PIR) within 21 days for delays, 7 days for damage.
  • Compensation follows the Montreal Convention. Claims for essentials (e.g., toiletries) can be submitted for delayed baggage. Etihad is not liable for fragile items, electronics, or valuables in checked baggage or for items under a Limited Release Tag.
