  • SMART Fare, Dynamic Flex SMART: One small underseat bag (max 40 x 30 x 25 cm) and one large cabin bag (max 55 x 40 x 23 cm / 21.6 x 15.7 x 9 inches, 8 kg / 17.6 lbs).
  • BEST Fare, BIZclass, Dynamic Flex BIZclass: Two cabin bags (one max 40 x 30 x 25 cm, one max 55 x 40 x 23 cm, 8 kg each, total 16 kg / 35.2 lbs).
  • Infants (0–23 months, no seat): One small cabin bag (max 40 x 30 x 25 cm) and two free items (e.g., stroller, car seat, carrycot) checked at the gate or counter.
  • Children (2–11 years): Same allowance as adults based on fare class.
  • Miles & More HON Circle/Senator, Lufthansa Group Status: Two cabin bags (total max 16 kg, one 40 x 30 x 25 cm, one 55 x 40 x 23 cm).

Size and Weight Restrictions:

  • Small Underseat Bag: Max 40 x 30 x 25 cm (15.7 x 11.8 x 9.8 inches), no weight limit but must fit under the seat. Examples: small backpack, laptop bag, handbag.
  • Large Cabin Bag: Max 55 x 40 x 23 cm (21.6 x 15.7 x 9 inches, including handles and wheels), 8 kg (17.6 lbs). Must fit in overhead bins. Foldable garment bags (max 57 x 54 x 15 cm / 22 x 21 x 6 inches, 8 kg) are allowed as large cabin bags.
  • Liquids, Gels, Aerosols: Containers up to 100 ml (3.4 oz) in a single, transparent, resealable 1-liter plastic bag, per EU/TSA regulations. Duty-free liquids in sealed tamper-evident bags (STEBs) with receipt are allowed and can be stowed under the seat.

Additional Notes:

  • Oversized/Overweight Bags: If exceeding dimensions or weight (e.g., over 55 x 40 x 23 cm or 8 kg for large cabin bags), bags are checked into the hold for €40–€50 ($50–$63) at the gate. BASIC fare passengers may have large cabin bags checked free on full flights due to limited overhead space.
  • Prohibited Items: Sharp objects (e.g., knives, scissors), explosives, flammable substances, lighters, and self-balancing devices (e.g., hoverboards). E-cigarettes and up to two spare lithium batteries are allowed in carry-on only, switched off. Smart bags require removable batteries carried separately.
  • Additional Permitted Items: Duty-free bags (one standard-sized), jackets, umbrellas, reading materials, and assistive devices (e.g., crutches, folding wheelchairs).
  • Musical Instruments: Small instruments (e.g., flutes, violins) within 55 x 40 x 23 cm and 8 kg count as carry-on. Larger instruments (e.g., tubas, upright basses) up to 30 x 117 x 38 cm and 75 kg require a seat purchase or are checked (max 32 kg, fees apply).
  • Priority Boarding: Adding a large cabin bag to BASIC fare (from €18/$23) includes priority boarding to ensure overhead space. BIZclass includes reserved hand baggage compartments.
Checked Baggage:

Allowance (varies by fare):

  • BASIC Fare: No free checked baggage. Options: 12 kg (€9–€25 online, €18–€40 at airport), 23 kg (€15–€60 online, €18–€60 at airport), or 32 kg (€30–€75 online, €40–€75 at airport).
  • SMART Fare, Dynamic Flex SMART: One checked bag up to 23 kg (50 lbs).
  • BIZclass, Dynamic Flex BIZclass: Two checked bags, each up to 32 kg (70 lbs).
  • Infants: One checked bag up to 23 kg (50 lbs, max 158 cm / 62 inches), plus two free items (e.g., stroller, car seat, carrycot).
  • Children (2–11 years): Same allowance as adults based on fare.
  • Miles & More HON Circle/Senator, Lufthansa Group Status: One additional bag (23 kg for Economy, 32 kg for Business).

Size and Weight Limitations:

  • Maximum dimensions: 158 cm (62 inches, L+W+H, including wheels and handles). Oversized bags (159–300 cm) incur a €100–€200 fee. Bags over 300 cm must be shipped as cargo.
  • Maximum weight: 32 kg (70 lbs) per bag. Bags over 32 kg are not accepted and must be shipped via cargo.

Excess Baggage Fees (one-way, approximate):

  • Extra Bags: €50–€125 per bag, depending on route and booking time (online up to 2 hours before departure saves up to 50%). Max five bags per passenger.
  • Overweight: €12 per kg at the airport (e.g., 12–32 kg bag incurs €240 for 20 extra kg if not prepaid).
  • Oversized (159–300 cm): €100–€200 per bag.
  • Fees are cumulative. Prepay online or via the call center for discounts. Payment at the airport is credit card only; cash is not accepted
Special Items (Sporting Equipment, Musical Instruments, etc.):
  • Allowance: Counts toward free baggage allowance if within weight (23–32 kg) and size (158 cm for standard, 300 cm for sports equipment). One additional sports item (e.g., golf bag) is free for Miles & More Senator/HON Circle members on Lufthansa-ticketed flights, but confirmation is advised.
  • Specific Rules:
    • Sports Equipment: Bicycles (handlebars fixed, pedals removed, tires deflated, packed in a protective box/bag), skis, snowboards (max 3 pairs/boards per person, 32 kg), golf bags, and surfboards/bodyboards are accepted with advance registration. Fees: €30–€60 online, €40–€75 at airport if exceeding allowance. E-bikes are prohibited due to battery restrictions.
    • Sports Weapons: Firearms require special reservation and are checked only (fees apply if over allowance).
    • Musical Instruments: Checked (max 32 kg, 300 cm) or carried as a seat (max 75 kg).
  • Non-Accepted Items: E-bikes, items over 32 kg or 300 cm, explosives, and flammable substances.
  • Mobility Aids: Wheelchairs (manual or non-spillable battery) and assistive devices are free with 48-hour notification. Battery-powered wheelchairs require manufacturer confirmation (e.g., non-spillable gel/AGM batteries).
  • Medical Equipment: Oxygen devices (max 5 kg) and CPAP machines are allowed with advance approval. Liquid oxygen systems are prohibited.
Pet Policy:
  • Small dogs, cats, or other small animals (max 8 kg including carrier, max 55 x 40 x 23 cm, waterproof bottom, pet over 12 weeks old) are allowed in the cabin on short/medium-haul flights. Fee: €60 ($75) per flight. Larger pets must be shipped as cargo. Advance booking required.
  • Assistance dogs travel free in the cabin with documentation.
Tips to Avoid Fees:
  • Measure bags (small: 40 x 30 x 25 cm; large: 55 x 40 x 23 cm, 8 kg; checked: 158 cm, 12–32 kg) and weigh them at home. Reddit users note strict weighing at check-in (e.g., 9.4 kg carry-on rejected).
  • Prepay baggage online (up to 2 hours before departure) for up to 50% savings (e.g., €9–€60 vs. €18–€75 for checked bags).
  • Use soft-sided bags for flexibility, as gate agents are strict with sizers. A Reddit user paid €48 for a slightly oversized bag.
  • For BASIC fare, add a large cabin bag with priority boarding (€18+) to avoid gate-check fees.
  • For codeshares (e.g., Lufthansa, United), confirm MSC rules, as Eurowings may not honor partner allowances (e.g., one bag vs. two for Senator status).
Lost, Delayed, or Damaged Baggage:
  • Report at the airport’s Eurowings baggage tracing office or via the online Baggage Self-Service form for a Property Irregularity Report (PIR). Damage must be reported within 7 days, delays within 21 days. Keep boarding passes and baggage receipts.
  • Compensation follows the Montreal Convention (max 1,288 SDRs, ~€1,500/$1,800). Emergency purchases for delays are reimbursed up to €30/day for 3 days with receipts.
  • Declare high-value items at check-in (5% surcharge) to increase liability limits.
