Fiji Airways Baggage Policy

Carry-On Baggage Allowance

Fiji Airways operates a piece-based baggage system for carry-on luggage, with specific limits on weight, dimensions, and the number of items allowed.

Economy Class:

  • Allowance: 1 piece of carry-on luggage + 1 small personal item (e.g., handbag, laptop bag, umbrella, or camera).
  • Maximum Weight: 7 kg (15 lbs) total for both items combined.
  • Maximum Dimensions: Total dimensions (length + width + height) must not exceed 118 cm (46 inches), with individual dimensions of 55 x 40 x 23 cm (including handles and wheels).
  • Note: Some reports from passengers indicate strict enforcement of the 7 kg limit, with bags weighed at check-in and tagged for approval. Exceeding the limit may result in the bag being checked for a fee (e.g., AUD 100–390, depending on the route).

Business Class:

  • Allowance: 2 pieces of carry-on luggage + 1 small personal item.
  • Maximum Weight: 7 kg (15 lbs) per piece, up to 14 kg total.
  • Maximum Dimensions: Total dimensions per piece must not exceed 126 cm (50 inches), with individual dimensions of 56 x 45 x 25 cm.

Infants (under 2 years):

  • Allowance: 3 kg (6.6 lbs) of cabin baggage for baby items (e.g., baby food, diapers) in addition to the adult’s allowance.
  • Strollers: One collapsible stroller (max 148 cm total dimensions) is allowed free of charge but must be checked unless it fits within cabin size limits and is in a suitable bag.

Additional Rules:

  • All carry-on items must fit under the seat or in the overhead bin. On Fiji Link flights (50 seats or fewer), larger items may need to be checked due to limited cabin space.
  • Liquids, Aerosols, and Gels (LAGs): Containers must be 100 ml or less, placed in a sealable, transparent 1-liter plastic bag. LAGs purchased at the airport can be carried onboard between the departure point and the first arrival port but are prohibited at transit points.
  • Non-Compliant Baggage: If carry-on exceeds weight or size limits, it will be checked into the hold for a fee (AUD 100–390, depending on the itinerary).
Excess Baggage Fees

Additional Baggage:

  • Prepaid excess baggage (up to 4 hours before international flights or 2 hours before domestic flights) is cheaper than airport rates. Passengers can purchase up to 2 additional pieces (1 for domestic flights) online or through Fiji Airways’ Sales Offices.
  • Another report mentioned a $600 AUD fee for 30 kg of checked baggage on an international flight booked via a third party, highlighting the importance of confirming baggage inclusion during booking.

Overweight/Oversized Baggage:

  • Bags weighing 23–30 kg (50–66 lbs) incur an excess baggage fee.
  • Bags exceeding 158 cm (62 inches) but under 277 cm (109 inches) are charged a bulky item fee (e.g., 100 FJD per item for surfboards, golf bags, etc.) plus any excess weight fees.
  • Example: A bag over 23 kg and oversized would incur both the bulky item fee and the excess weight fee.

Pre-Purchase Savings: Prepaying for excess baggage online via Manage Your Booking can be significantly cheaper (3–4 times less than airport rates).

Special Items and Allowances

Sports Equipment and Musical Instruments:

  • Items like surfboards, golf bags, or musical instruments are accepted as part of the standard allowance if within weight and size limits.
  • Bulky items exceeding 158 cm (62 inches) incur a 100 FJD fee per item, plus excess weight fees if over 23 kg (50 lbs). Contact Fiji Airways in advance for specific requirements.

Mobility Aids:

  • Passengers with disabilities can carry mobility equipment (e.g., collapsible wheelchairs, crutches) free of charge, not counting toward carry-on or checked baggage limits.

Firearms and Ammunition:

  • Firearms may be carried as checked baggage with a valid Police Permit and CAAFI approval (required 7 days prior to travel).
  • Ammunition must be shipped as freight.

Portable Electronic Devices (PEDs):

  • Devices with lithium batteries (e.g., cameras, laptops, phones) are permitted in carry-on or checked baggage for personal use. Lithium battery-powered vehicles are not allowed.

Prohibited Items:

  • Dangerous goods (e.g., explosives, flammable liquids, corrosives, poisons, radioactive materials) are prohibited in both carry-on and checked baggage. Declare all dangerous goods at check-in to avoid fines or imprisonment.
Additional Notes

Interline Flights:

  • For journeys to/from the USA, the baggage policy of the airline ticketing the first segment applies. For non-US routes, check with the operating carrier, as their rules may be more restrictive.
  • If connecting to Fiji Link domestic flights on the same ticket as an international flight, the international allowance applies. Separate tickets mean separate allowances.

Lost or Damaged Baggage:

  • Report issues within 7 days via Fiji Airways’ customer service. Keep baggage tags and document contents for claims.
