About FlyOne Airlines

A Quick Overview of FlyOne Airlines

FlyOne, a privately owned Moldovan low-cost airline, is headquartered in Chișinău, Moldova, with its primary hub at Chișinău International Airport (KIV). Launched in 2016, FlyOne has grown to become Moldova’s largest airline, operating scheduled and charter flights to 18 destinations across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, carrying over 2 million passengers annually as of 2023. A member of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) since 2022, FlyOne holds IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) certification, renewed in 2023, affirming its commitment to safety. The airline’s subsidiary, FlyOne Armenia, based in Yerevan, Armenia, expands its reach with additional routes since 2021. Known for its budget-friendly fares and punctuality, FlyOne is recognized as Moldova’s most punctual airline by the Institute for European Policy and Reform (IPRE), but it faces significant customer criticism for service issues and hidden fees.

History and Milestones

FlyOne was established in 2016, receiving its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) on March 30, 2016, from Moldova’s Civil Aviation Authority. Its first scheduled passenger flights launched on June 10, 2016, serving Antalya, Heraklion, and Rhodes as charter destinations from Chișinău. By 2017, FlyOne expanded to scheduled routes, including Moscow, London, and Lisbon, leveraging Chișinău’s strategic location to connect Eastern Europe with Western destinations. In 2021, FlyOne invested €60 million ($67.8 million) to create FlyOne Armenia, which received its AOC on October 29, 2021, and began operations on December 18, 2021, with a Yerevan–Lyon flight. FlyOne Armenia operates from Zvartnots International Airport (EVN), serving routes like Yerevan–Moscow and Yerevan–Tehran.

In December 2022, FlyOne Airlines SRL secured an AOC from the Romanian Civil Aviation Authority, enabling operations under stricter EU regulatory standards. That year, the airline transported 1 million passengers and launched six new destinations. In 2023, FlyOne doubled its passenger count to 2 million, added 14 new routes, including Barcelona, Cologne, and Dubai, and expanded its fleet with three Airbus A320s. Joining IATA in 2022 strengthened its global credibility, and IOSA recertification in 2023 underscored its safety focus. In 2024, FlyOne resumed flights to Tel Aviv and introduced routes to Tbilisi and Baku, reinforcing its regional presence. Despite growth, the airline faced scrutiny in 2023 when FlyOne Armenia was added to the EU Air Safety List, requiring wet-leased aircraft from FlyOne Moldova for EU operations.

Fleet and Operations

FlyOne operates a fleet of eight Airbus aircraft: three A319-100s (156 seats), four A320-200s (180 seats), and one A320-200 (174 seats), with an average age of 12 years. FlyOne Armenia operates two A320-200s (180 seats) and one Gulfstream G450 for VIP charters. All aircraft feature single-class Economy layouts with a 29–31-inch seat pitch, configured for high-density, low-cost operations. FlyOne serves 18 destinations, including Barcelona, Birmingham, Cologne, Dublin, Lisbon, London, Moscow, Paris, Tel Aviv, and Yerevan, with 100 weekly flights. Key routes include Chișinău–Moscow (daily) and Yerevan–Tel Aviv ( thrice weekly). The airline’s charter services cater to tour operators, with seasonal flights to Antalya, Bodrum, and Sharm El-Sheikh.

Chișinău International Airport (KIV), FlyOne’s hub, handles 3 million passengers annually, while Zvartnots International Airport (EVN) supports FlyOne Armenia’s operations. FlyOne’s unbundled model charges for extras: carry-on bags ($20–$40), checked bags ($25–$50), and seat selection ($5–$15). Interline agreements with airlines like Hahn Air and virtual interlining via FlyOne Connect enhance connectivity, though the airline lacks codeshare partnerships. Cargo services focus on perishables and general freight, leveraging Chișinău’s role as a trade hub.
