Special Baggage:
  • Sports Equipment (e.g., surfboards, bicycles, golf clubs): Counts toward checked baggage allowance. If exceeding, fees are $30–$70 (domestic) or $50–$150 (international). Must be packed (e.g., bicycles: pedals removed, handlebars aligned, tires deflated). Max 23 kg, 190 x 75 x 65 cm.
  • Musical Instruments: Small instruments (e.g., violins) can replace carry-on if within size limits. Larger instruments require an extra seat purchase (max 75 kg, 110 x 42 x 50 cm) or are checked with standard fees.
  • Pets: Allowed in the cabin (max 8 kg including carrier, 43 x 33 x 20 cm) or cargo hold, fees $100–$200 depending on route. Requires prior approval, pet passport, health certificate, and permits. Not allowed to/from certain destinations due to regulations.
  • Valuable Items: Must be carry-on; GOL does not accept declared baggage for high-value items (e.g., jewelry) on codeshare flights. Use the Special Declared Baggage Value Form for items exceeding 1,131 DES.
Prohibited Items:
  • Checked Baggage: Explosives, compressed gases, flammable liquids, corrosives, lithium batteries (>160 Wh), battery-operated items producing extreme heat (e.g., underwater lanterns).
  • Carry-On Baggage: Firearms, bladed weapons, printer cartridges, liquids over 100 ml, stun/electroshock devices, fireworks, paints, chemicals.
Lost, Damaged, or Delayed Baggage:
  • Reporting: File a Property Irregularity Report (PIR) at the airport within 7 days for damage/loss or 21 days for delays. For connections, the last operating airline handles claims.
  • Liability: Limited to 1,131 Special Drawing Rights unless a higher value is declared (extra fee). No liability for perishable items or minor wear.
Additional Notes:
  • Fare Benefits: Smiles Diamond/Gold/Silver members and Smiles Infinite/Platinum cardholders get extra allowances (e.g., +1 bag, 23 kg for Economy, 32 kg for Premium). Present the physical card at check-in.
  • Codeshare Flights: The operating airline’s baggage policy applies for the first segment. For GOL-American Airlines codeshares, baggage must be reclaimed at the first stop in Brazil or the U.S. for customs.
  • Baggage Strictness: Anecdotal reports suggest GOL may be lenient with slightly oversized bags (e.g., 30 cm depth vs. 28 cm limit), but compliance is advised to avoid fees.
