Gulf Air Baggage Policy Overview
Carry-On Baggage:
  • Economy Class (All Fares): One piece, max 6 kg, dimensions up to 45 x 40 x 30 cm (including handles, wheels, and pockets). Must fit under the seat or in the overhead bin.
  • Falcon Gold (Business Class): One piece, max 9 kg, dimensions up to 55 x 40 x 30 cm, plus one briefcase (max 45 x 40 x 30 cm, total 9 kg combined).
  • Personal Item: One additional item (e.g., laptop, purse, umbrella, camera, or reading material) permitted free of charge, except for infants under 2 years (3 kg max, 44 x 35 x 20 cm).
  • Liquids: Containers up to 100 ml, placed in a 1-liter transparent, resealable plastic bag (total liquid volume not exceeding 1 liter). Prohibited items (e.g., sharp objects, firearms, liquids over 100 ml) must be in checked baggage.
Checked Baggage:
  • Economy Class:
    • Light/Start Fares: 1 piece, up to 23 kg, max dimensions 76 x 51 x 31 cm (or 95 x 75 x 45 cm on some routes).
    • Flex Fares: 2 pieces, up to 23 kg each, max dimensions 158 cm (total linear dimensions).
    • To/From India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Philippines: 2 pieces, up to 30 kg combined (effective from 15 July 2018).
  • Falcon Gold (Business Class): 2 pieces, up to 32 kg each, max dimensions 158 cm.
  • Children (2 years and above): Same allowance as adults, plus one collapsible stroller/pushchair and one car seat.
  • Infants (under 2 years): 10 kg (44 x 35 x 20 cm), plus one collapsible stroller and one car seat.
Excess Baggage Fees:
  • Overweight Bags: $50 per piece for bags between 23–32 kg (max 70 lb/32 kg per bag).
  • Extra Bags: $130–$165 per additional bag, depending on the route and booking method (cheaper if prepaid online, up to 30% discount).
  • Oversized Bags: Charges apply for items exceeding 158 cm (up to 190 x 75 x 65 cm for special baggage); items larger are transported as cargo.
  • Prepaid Excess Baggage: Available up to 25 hours before departure via gulfair.com, mobile app, or Gulf Air offices. Must be purchased in 5 kg increments, valid for one year, non-transferable.
  • Falconflyer Members: Additional allowance—Silver: +15 kg, Gold: +20 kg, Black: +25 kg.
  • Students: Additional 10 kg (or one 23 kg bag for tickets before 27 Oct 2024) for travel between Bahrain and university/school country, with valid student ID, visa, or acceptance letter.
Special Baggage:
  • Sports Equipment: Bicycles (max 15 kg, pedals removed, handlebars aligned, tires deflated, in protective case) and other equipment (e.g., surfboards, kayaks) up to 15 kg are free within allowance; otherwise, excess charges apply ($30–$70). Max dimensions 190 x 75 x 65 cm.
  • Musical Instruments: Can be carried in the cabin with an extra seat purchase (max 75 kg, 110 x 42 x 50 cm) or as checked baggage within allowance.
  • Pets: Allowed in the cabin (max 8 kg including container, 50 x 40 x 25 cm) or cargo hold with prior approval, fees $100–$200 depending on route. Requires pet passport, health certificate, and permits. Not allowed to/from UK, Ireland, or certain destinations.
  • Zamzam Water: 5 kg free (securely wrapped) from specific airports (e.g., DMM, ELQ); not allowed in cabin or at some airports (e.g., RUH).
  • Medical Equipment: CPAP/POC devices require medical clearance 48 hours prior.
Prohibited Items:
  • Checked Baggage: Lithium batteries, flammable liquids/gases, corrosives, explosives, disabling devices (e.g., mace, pepper spray).
  • Carry-On Baggage: Firearms, toy guns, sharp objects, liquids over 100 ml, electroshock weapons. Smart bags with non-removable batteries are prohibited.
Lost, Damaged, or Delayed Baggage:
  • Report damage immediately at the airport or within 7 days in writing. Gulf Air’s liability is limited to 1,288 Special Drawing Rights unless a higher value is declared at check-in (extra fee applies).
  • Delayed baggage: File a Property Irregularity Report (PIR) at the airport. Track status online or via Gulf Air offices.
  • Gulf Air is not liable for minor wear and tear (e.g., scratches, dents) or damage during customs inspections.
