Special Baggage:
  • Sports Equipment (e.g., golf clubs, skis, bicycles): Counts as checked baggage within allowance; otherwise, subject to excess/oversized fees ($30–$70). Must be in sturdy containers. Soft-packed items (e.g., fishing rods, diving gear) require an “Exempt From Liability” tag, and Hainan Airlines is not liable for damage.

  • Pets: Allowed in the cabin (max 8 kg including container, 50 x 40 x 25 cm) or cargo hold with prior approval, fees $100–$200 depending on route. Requires pet passport, health certificate, and permits. Containers must be secure, ventilated, and leak-proof. Not allowed to/from certain destinations due to regulations.
  • Medical Devices/Fragile Items: Must be securely packed. Precision instruments or high-value items may require advance arrangements and fees if exceeding allowance.
Prohibited Items:
  • Checked Baggage: Firearms, ammunition, explosives, flammable liquids/gases, corrosives, lithium batteries, power banks, and dangerous goods.
  • Carry-On Baggage: Sharp objects, firearms, toy guns, liquids over 100 ml, and items that could be mistaken for weapons.
  • Fragile/Valuable Items: Not recommended for checked baggage (e.g., electronics, artwork). Hainan Airlines’ liability is limited if lost or damaged.
Lost, Damaged, or Delayed Baggage:
  • Reporting: Report damage or loss at the airport’s baggage services office immediately, obtaining a Record of Baggage Transportation Errors. Claims must be filed within 7 days for damage/loss or 21 days for delays. Provide boarding pass, baggage tag, and proof of contents/value.
  • Compensation: Limited to 1,288 Special Drawing Rights unless a higher value is declared (extra fee). Hainan Airlines may repair or replace damaged bags via contracted services.
Additional Notes:
  • Policy Variations: Baggage allowances and fees vary by route, fare class, and ticket date (pre- or post-February 14, 2025). Codeshare flights follow the operating carrier’s policy for the first segment.
