Hawaiian Airlines Flight Change Policy

Overview

Hawaiian Airlines allows passengers to modify flight bookings, including changes to dates, times, or destinations, subject to fare rules and availability. Changes must be made before departure to avoid no-show penalties, which result in cancellation of the reservation, including continuing and return flights, with no refund or credit for non-refundable tickets. Fare differences may apply, but change fees are waived for most fare types.

Key Conditions
  • Changes are permitted for tickets booked directly through Hawaiian Airlines’ website, mobile app, or Reservations Department. Third-party bookings (e.g., travel agencies, Orbitz, Expedia) must be modified through the original booking source.
  • Modifications to codeshare flights or flights operated by other airlines (e.g., Alaska Airlines) are subject to the operating carrier’s policies.
  • All passengers on a multi-passenger ticket must be changed together; individual changes require contacting the Reservations Department.
  • Name changes are allowed only for HawaiianMiles award tickets or unticketed domestic itineraries, enabling ticket transfers to another person.
  • Tickets are valid for one year from purchase for wholly unused tickets or from initial use for partially used tickets, except in no-show cases.
24-Hour Change Policy

Passengers can change or cancel their booking within one day of purchase without fees, provided the flight is at least a week away and was booked directly through Hawaiian Airlines. This applies to most fare types, including award tickets, but fare differences may apply if the new flight is more expensive.

Fare Type Policies
  • Main Cabin, First Class, Business Class: No change fees, but fare differences apply if the new flight is more expensive. No credit or refund is provided if the new fare is lower.
  • Main Cabin Basic: Non-changeable and non-refundable, except within the one-day risk-free period if booked a week before departure. Seat selection is available only at check-in or at the gate.
  • HawaiianMiles Award Tickets: No change fees, but mileage adjustments or fees may apply if changes are made close to departure.
Same-Day Change Policy

Same-day flight changes are not explicitly offered, but passengers can request standby for an earlier or later flight on the same day and route, subject to availability. Main Cabin Basic tickets are not eligible for standby. No change fees apply, but fare differences may be charged.

Change Fees
  • No change fees apply for Main Cabin, First Class, Business Class, or HawaiianMiles award tickets, but fare differences are charged if the new flight is more expensive.
  • Main Cabin Basic tickets are non-changeable, except within the one-day risk-free period.
  • Pualani Platinum, Pualani Gold | Corporate Program members may receive additional flexibility, such as complimentary Fare Hold or priority rebooking.
  • Changes to third-party bookings may incur fees imposed by the agency, in addition to fare differences.
How to Change a Flight

Passengers can modify their bookings through the following methods:

  • Online: Visit the “Manage Flights” or “My Trips” section on the Hawaiian Airlines website or mobile app, enter the confirmation code or ticket number and last name, select “Change Flight,” and follow prompts to modify details and pay any fare differences. This is available for one-way or round-trip tickets booked in US dollars, excluding HawaiianMiles or Extra Comfort bookings.
  • Customer Service: Contact the Reservations Department for assistance, especially for complex changes, multi-passenger tickets, or bookings not eligible for online changes. A service charge may apply for agent-assisted changes.
  • In-Person: Visit an airport ticket counter or kiosk to process changes, subject to availability and fare differences.
  • Travel Agency: If booked through a third party, contact the agency to manage changes, which may involve additional fees.
Flight Disruptions
  • For significant schedule changes (e.g., delays exceeding a short duration or changes to origin/destination), passengers can change their flight without fees or fare differences to the same or an equivalent destination, or request a refund for refundable tickets.
  • Revalidation or reissue is allowed once without fees for schedule changes, maintaining the same fare class if possible. Further changes are subject to fare recalculation.
  • In case of cancellations or force majeure events (e.g., weather, air traffic control), passengers may be rebooked on the next available flight or offered a travel credit valid for one year, non-transferable, and applicable only to Hawaiian Airlines flights.
Additional Notes
  • Passengers are advised to review fare rules at booking to understand change restrictions and costs. Main Cabin Basic fares are highly restrictive.
  • No-show passengers on non-refundable tickets lose the entire ticket value, including continuing and return flights, with no credit issued.
  • Seat selection for changed flights is available after the change is confirmed, via the “My Trips” section or at check-in.
  • Gift cards or travel vouchers cannot be used to pay for fare differences during flight changes.
