Icelandair Name Change Policy

Overview

Icelandair allows name corrections on tickets for minor errors or legal name changes, ensuring the name matches the passenger’s government-issued identification. Tickets are non-transferable, meaning they cannot be reassigned to another person except in specific legal circumstances.

Eligibility for Name Corrections
  • Minor Spelling Errors: Corrections of up to three characters in the first, middle, or last name are permitted to fix typographical errors.
  • Legal Name Changes: Changes due to marriage, divorce, gender transition, or court-ordered name changes are allowed with supporting documentation like a marriage certificate or court order.
  • Title Corrections: Adjustments to titles, such as changing from Mr. to Ms. or Dr. to Prof., are permitted.
  • Non-Transferable Tickets: Full name changes to transfer a ticket to another person are not allowed, except for legal name changes.
Ineligible Bookings for Name Changes
  • Tickets purchased with currencies other than US dollars.
  • Bookings made through travel agents or third-party platforms.
  • Reservations made close to departure or already checked in.
  • Partially used tickets or those with departed flight segments.
  • Basic Rate segment bookings or group bookings with multiple passengers.
  • Reservations including infants or pets.
  • Multi-city flight segments or codeshare/interline flights not operated by Icelandair.
Process for Name Corrections

Name corrections can be requested through the following methods:

  • Online: For minor corrections, access the Manage Booking section on the Icelandair website or mobile app. Enter the booking reference and last name, select the booking, and follow prompts to request a correction.
  • Customer Support: Contact Icelandair’s customer service for assistance, especially for legal name changes. Provide booking details and required documentation.
  • Airport Counter: Visit an Icelandair ticket counter at the airport with valid ID and supporting documents for corrections.
Fees and Conditions
  • Minor corrections may be free if requested within a short period after booking, typically within a risk-free window.
  • Fees for name corrections vary by fare type, route, and booking channel. Online corrections may incur a lower fee compared to changes through the call center or at the airport.
  • Significant changes requiring ticket reissuance may involve cancellation fees and fare differences.
  • Name corrections are not permitted after check-in or for used tickets.
  • For third-party bookings, changes must be requested through the original booking channel.
  • For vacation packages, name changes may incur a specific fee and require contacting the vacation team.
Important Notes
  • Passengers must provide valid identification and legal documents, such as a passport or marriage certificate, for corrections.
  • Only one name correction per booking is allowed.
  • Ensure the corrected name matches the travel document to avoid boarding issues.
  • Requests should be made well in advance, ideally by a specified period before departure, to allow processing.
  • For accurate fee details, check fare rules or contact Icelandair customer service.
