Overview
ITA Airways allows passengers to modify flight bookings, including changes to dates or times, subject to fare rules and availability. Changes must be made before departure to avoid no-show penalties, which result in cancellation of the reservation and loss of ticket value. Fees and fare differences may apply based on fare type, route, and timing. Destination changes are permitted within the same geographic region, but name changes are not allowed.
Key Conditions
- Changes are permitted for tickets purchased through ITA Airways’ website, mobile app, customer center, or airport ticket offices, provided the ticket has a specific code prefix.
- Modifications to codeshare or interline flights are subject to the operating airline’s policies.
- Changes must be made before departure, with online changes allowed up to a short time before the flight. Same-day changes require contacting the customer center.
- Name changes are not permitted, but minor spelling corrections are allowed with supporting documents like a passport or government-issued ID.
- Tickets are valid for one year from issuance for wholly unused tickets or from the first travel date for partially used tickets, unless otherwise specified.
- Passengers must cancel check-in before making changes or requesting refunds.
24-Hour Change Policy
Passengers can change their booking within one day of purchase without a fee, provided the flight is at least a week away and was booked directly through ITA Airways’ website or USA call center. This applies to flights operated by ITA Airways, excluding codeshare flights, instant upgrades, bid upgrades, or Volare program tickets. Fare differences may apply if the new flight is more expensive.
Fare Type Policies
- Economy Light: Changes are not permitted; tickets are non-refundable.
- Economy Classic: Changes incur a fee, with fare differences if the new flight is more expensive. Non-refundable.
- Economy Flex: No change fees, but fare differences apply if the new flight is more expensive. Refundable under certain conditions.
- Premium Economy: Changes incur a lower fee than Economy Classic, with fare differences if applicable. Refundable under certain conditions.
- Business Class: No change fees for flexible fares, but fare differences apply. Refundable under certain conditions. Some promotional fares may have restrictions.
- Flight Pass: Changes to date or time incur a fee, except for Freedom Option holders, who can change without a fee, subject to availability. Name changes incur a supplementary charge.
Change Fees
- Fees for Economy Classic and Premium Economy vary by route, fare class, and timing, with higher fees closer to departure.
- Fare differences are charged if the new flight is more expensive; no refund or credit is issued if the new fare is lower.
- Economy Flex and Business Class flexible fares have no change fees, but fare differences apply.
- Service fees may apply for changes made via customer center, ticket counters, or sales offices, charged per passenger per transaction.
- Changes due to illness or death of a close relative may have fees waived with supporting documentation, such as a medical or death certificate.
How to Change a Flight
Passengers can modify their bookings through the following methods:
- Online: Visit the “Manage Flight” section on the ITA Airways website or mobile app, enter the booking code or ticket number and surname, select new flight details, and pay any fees or fare differences. Available for tickets with a specific code prefix purchased online, via the app, customer center, or airport ticket offices.
- Customer Service: Contact the customer center for assistance, especially for same-day changes, Volare award tickets, multi-destination trips, or bookings with special services like pets or unaccompanied minors. A service fee may apply.
- In-Person: Visit an ITA Airways ticket counter or airport office to process changes, subject to availability and fees.
- Travel Agency: If booked through a third party, contact the agency to manage changes, which may involve additional fees. For schedule changes within a few days of departure, online changes are allowed, but refunds must be requested through the agency.
Flight Disruptions
- For cancellations or schedule changes of a few hours or more, passengers can rebook without fees or fare differences within a short period before or after the original departure date, or request a refund. Notifications are sent via email or SMS if contact details are provided.
- One free change is allowed for involuntary schedule changes, but further changes may incur fees based on fare rules.
- Compensation may be provided under EU Regulation for flights departing from EU airports, unless disruptions are due to extraordinary circumstances like weather or air traffic control issues.
Additional Notes
- Passengers should review fare rules at booking to understand change restrictions and costs.
- Changes to bookings with additional services (e.g., baggage, seats) may require re-selection, as services may not transfer to the new flight.
- Travel credits issued for changes are valid for one year, non-transferable, and applicable only to ITA Airways flights.
- Changes for multi-passenger bookings or those with special services may require customer center assistance.
