Overview
Jetstar Airways allows passengers to modify flight bookings, including changes to dates or times, subject to fare rules and availability. Changes must be made before the flight opens for check-in to avoid no-show penalties, which result in cancellation of the reservation and loss of ticket value. Fees and fare differences may apply based on fare type, route, and timing. Origin or destination changes are permitted for most fares, except for Starter fares without bundles. Jetstar Asia ceased operations on July 31, 2025, and this policy applies to Jetstar Airways and Jetstar Japan flights only.
Key Conditions
- Changes are permitted for tickets purchased through Jetstar’s website, mobile app, contact center, or airport service desks. Tickets booked through third parties must be changed via the original booking agent.
- Modifications to codeshare or interline flights are subject to the operating airline’s policies.
- Changes must be made before the flight opens for check-in, as indicated on the itinerary or Jetstar’s website.
- Name changes are permitted for all flights of an individual passenger, except for Qantas Frequent Flyer Points Plus Pay or JAL Mileage bookings. Minor spelling corrections may require contacting the Jetstar Contact Centre.
- Tickets are valid for one year from issuance for wholly unused tickets, unless otherwise specified in fare rules.
One-Hour Quick Fix
Passengers can change flight dates or times without a change fee within one hour of booking confirmation, provided the booking was made on Jetstar’s website or app. This applies to domestic flights in Australia and New Zealand and most Jetstar Airways international flights, except those connecting to Jetstar Asia via Darwin. Fare differences may apply if the new flight is more expensive.
24-Hour Change Policy
Passengers can change their booking within one day of purchase without a fee, provided the flight is at least a week away and was booked directly through Jetstar’s website, app, or contact center. This applies to most fare types, except promotional or group bookings. Fare differences may apply if the new flight is more expensive.
Fare Type Policies
- Starter: Changes incur a fee, plus fare differences if the new flight is more expensive. Origin or destination changes are not permitted. Non-refundable, except under specific legal conditions or with FareCredit purchase.
- Starter with Plus Bundle: Changes incur a fee, plus fare differences if applicable. Origin or destination changes are permitted with a fee. Non-refundable, except under specific conditions.
- Starter with Flex Bundle: Changes incur a fee, with fare differences if applicable. Origin or destination changes are permitted with a fee. Refundable as a voucher if canceled before the change deadline.
- Starter with Max Bundle: No change fees, but fare differences apply if the new flight is more expensive. Origin or destination changes are permitted without a fee. Refundable as a voucher if canceled before the change deadline.
- Business Class: Changes incur a fee, with fare differences if applicable. Non-refundable, except under specific conditions.
- Business Class with Max Bundle: No change fees, but fare differences apply. Refundable as a voucher if canceled before the change deadline.
Change Fees
- Fees for Starter, Starter with Plus Bundle, and Business Class fares vary by route and timing, with lower fees for changes made well in advance of departure and higher fees closer to the flight date.
- Fare differences are charged if the new flight is more expensive; no refund or credit is issued if the new fare is lower.
- Starter with Max Bundle and Business Class with Max Bundle fares have no change fees, but fare differences apply.
- Name changes incur a fee per passenger, per flight, except within the one-hour Quick Fix window or 24-hour policy for eligible bookings.
- Service fees apply for changes made via the contact center or airport service desks if the booking was not originally made through those channels. Online changes via Jetstar’s website or app avoid additional booking fees.
- Additional airport service desk fees may apply at specific airports, such as Phuket or Singapore.
How to Change a Flight
Passengers can modify their bookings through the following methods:
- Online: Visit the “Manage Booking” section on the Jetstar website or app, enter the booking reference and email address, select new flight details, and pay any fees or fare differences. Available for bookings made via Jetstar’s website, app, or contact center.
- Customer Service: Contact the Jetstar Contact Centre for assistance, especially for same-day changes, origin/destination changes, or bookings not eligible for online modification. A service fee may apply.
- In-Person: Visit a Jetstar service desk at the airport before check-in closes to process changes, subject to availability and fees.
- Travel Agency: If booked through a third party, contact the agency to manage changes, which may involve additional fees.
Flight Disruptions
- For cancellations or schedule changes of a few hours or more within a few days of departure, Jetstar will rebook passengers on the next available flight acceptable to them without fees or fare differences, or offer a refund or voucher for unused segments.
- Notifications are sent via email or SMS if contact details are provided.
- Compensation may be provided under Australian Consumer Law, New Zealand Civil Aviation Act, or international conventions for delays or cancellations within Jetstar’s control, such as crew issues or technical problems, but not for external factors like weather or air traffic control.
Additional Notes
- Passengers should review fare rules at booking to understand change restrictions and costs.
- Changes to add-ons (e.g., baggage, seats, meals) can be made via the “Manage Booking” section without a change fee, but service fees may apply if done through the contact center or airport.
- Vouchers issued for changes are valid for one year, non-transferable, and applicable only to Jetstar flights for the original passenger.
- FareCredit, if purchased, allows refunds as vouchers for Starter or Business Class fares, subject to specific terms.
