Overview
Jetstar Airways allows name changes on bookings, enabling passengers to transfer tickets to another person or correct minor errors, subject to fees and conditions. Name changes must apply to the entire itinerary and are not permitted for certain fare types or after check-in.
Eligibility for Name Changes
- Minor Spelling Errors: Corrections for typos, such as up to three characters in the first or last name, are permitted, often free within a one-hour Quick Fix window after booking.
- Legal Name Changes: Changes due to marriage, divorce, or other legal reasons are allowed with supporting documentation, such as a marriage certificate or court order.
- Full Name Changes: Transferring a ticket to another person is permitted for most fare types, except for Qantas Frequent Flyer Points Plus Pay, JAL Mileage bookings, or certain promotional fares.
- Restrictions: Name changes are not allowed for partially used tickets, after check-in, or for specific fare types like some Starter fares unless upgraded to flexible options like Starter Plus or Starter Max.
Process for Name Changes
Name changes can be requested through the following methods:
- Online: Access the Manage Booking section on the Jetstar website or app. Enter the booking reference and email address, select the booking, and follow prompts to change the name. This is available up to a few hours before departure for eligible fares.
- Customer Support: Contact the Jetstar Contact Centre via phone or online chat for assistance, providing booking details and documentation. This is required for legal name changes or complex corrections.
- Airport Service Desk: Visit a Jetstar service desk at the airport before check-in, presenting valid ID and supporting documents.
- Third-Party Bookings: For bookings made through travel agents, changes must be requested through the original booking channel.
Fees and Conditions
- Minor corrections of up to three characters are free within the one-hour Quick Fix window for bookings made on the Jetstar website or app. Beyond this, a change fee applies per passenger, per flight, varying by route and timing.
- Full name changes incur a change fee plus any fare difference if the new fare is higher. No refunds are issued if the new fare is lower.
- Starter Plus, Starter Max, Business Class, and Business Max fares may allow free name changes within the change deadline, but fare differences apply.
- Additional booking fees may apply for changes made via the Contact Centre or airport service desk, which can be avoided by using the website or app.
- Changes must be made before the flight opens for check-in, and deadlines vary by fare type.
Important Notes
- Passengers must provide valid identification and legal documents for name changes, especially for legal reasons.
- The name on the ticket must match the passport exactly for international flights to avoid boarding or immigration issues.
- For Club Jetstar member exclusive fares, if the member’s name is changed, other passengers may lose eligibility for the exclusive fare, incurring additional fare differences.
- Requests should be made early to ensure processing and avoid last-minute complications.
- For accurate fee details and fare rules, check the Jetstar website or contact the Contact Centre, as fees vary by route, fare type, and timing.
