Overview
LATAM Airlines allows passengers to modify flight bookings, including changes to dates, times, or destinations, subject to fare rules and availability. Changes must be made before departure, typically up to a short time before the flight, to avoid no-show penalties, which result in cancellation of the reservation and loss of ticket value. Fees and fare differences may apply based on fare type, route, and timing. Changes to destinations are permitted within the same region (e.g., South America, North America, Europe, Oceania).
Key Conditions
- Changes are permitted for tickets purchased through LATAM’s website, mobile app, contact center, sales offices, or authorized travel agencies. Tickets must have a specific code prefix to follow standard change policies.
- Modifications to codeshare or interline flights are subject to the operating airline’s policies.
- Changes must be made before check-in, with online changes allowed up to a short time before departure. Same-day changes can be made up to a shorter period before domestic or international flights.
- Name changes are not permitted, but corrections of up to a few characters for typographical errors or to match legal documentation (e.g., due to marriage) are allowed with supporting documents like a passport or marriage certificate. Only one correction per ticket is permitted.
- Tickets are valid for one year from issuance for wholly unused tickets or from the first travel date for partially used tickets, unless otherwise specified.
24-Hour Change Policy
Passengers can change their booking within one day of purchase without a fee, provided the flight is at least a week away and was booked directly through LATAM’s website, app, contact center, or sales offices. This applies to most fare types, excluding group or promotional fares. Fare differences may apply if the new flight is more expensive.
Fare Type Policies
- Basic: Changes are not permitted; tickets are non-refundable.
- Light: Changes incur a fee, with fare differences if the new flight is more expensive. Non-refundable.
- Plus: Changes incur a fee, with fare differences if applicable. Refundable under certain conditions.
- Top: No change fees, but fare differences apply if the new flight is more expensive. Refundable under certain conditions.
- Premium Business: No change fees, but fare differences apply. Refundable under certain conditions.
- LATAM Pass Elite Members (Platinum, Black, Black Signature): Exempt from change fees for most fares, except Basic, with fare differences if applicable. Benefits vary by region and fare type.
Same-Day Change Policy
Same-day changes are allowed for flights operated by LATAM, maintaining the same origin, destination, and cabin class, from one day up to a short time before departure for domestic flights or a slightly longer period for international flights. A fixed fee applies per passenger, except for infants under a certain age, who are exempt. No fare differences are charged, but changes cannot switch between connecting and direct flights, and special services like meals may not transfer.
Change Fees
- Fees for Light and Plus fares vary by route and timing, with higher fees for international flights compared to domestic ones.
- Fare differences are charged if the new flight is more expensive; no refund or credit is issued if the new fare is lower.
- Top and Premium Business fares, as well as eligible LATAM Pass Elite members, are exempt from change fees, but fare differences apply.
- Name corrections incur a fee, with higher charges for international flights, and require legal documentation for changes due to marriage or other legal reasons.
- Service fees may apply for changes made via contact center or sales offices, charged per passenger per transaction.
- Changes due to medical emergencies or illness may have fees waived with supporting documentation, such as a medical certificate.
How to Change a Flight
Passengers can modify their bookings through the following methods:
- Online: Visit the “My Trips” section on the LATAM website or app, enter the reservation code or order number and last name, select “Change the date of your flight,” choose new flight details, and pay any fees or fare differences.
- Customer Service: Contact the LATAM Contact Center for assistance, especially for same-day changes, complex itineraries, or bookings not eligible for online changes. A service fee may apply.
- In-Person: Visit a LATAM sales office or airport counter to process changes, subject to availability and fees. Same-day changes at airports are allowed up to a short time before departure.
- Travel Agency: If booked through a third party, contact the agency to manage changes, which may involve additional fees.
Flight Disruptions
- For cancellations or schedule changes, passengers can rebook without fees or fare differences within one year from the original flight date, maintaining the same route and cabin class, or request a refund or voucher. Notifications are sent via email, SMS, or WhatsApp if contact details are provided.
- Automatic refunds, including taxes, seats, and baggage, are processed for unchanged rescheduled flights, per regulations like the US Department of Transportation rules.
- Compensation may be provided under EU or other regional regulations for flights within or departing from those regions, unless disruptions are due to extraordinary circumstances like weather or air traffic control issues.
Additional Notes
- Passengers should review fare rules in the “What your fare includes” section of “My Trips” or on the purchase receipt to understand change restrictions and costs.
- Changes to bookings with additional services (e.g., baggage, seats, meals) may require re-selection, as services may not transfer to the new flight.
- Travel credits or vouchers issued for changes are valid for one year, non-transferable, and applicable only to LATAM flights.
- LATAM Pass award tickets may incur fees or mileage adjustments for changes, with exemptions for Platinum, Black, and Black Signature members.
