Overview
LATAM Airlines allows minor name corrections on tickets to fix spelling errors or update names due to legal reasons, ensuring the name matches the passenger’s government-issued identification. Full name changes to transfer tickets to another person are not permitted, as tickets are non-transferable. Corrections are subject to specific conditions and fees, and only one correction per ticket is allowed.
Eligibility for Name Corrections
- Minor Spelling Errors: Corrections of up to three or four characters in the first, middle, or last name are permitted to fix typos, often free within a short period after booking.
- Legal Name Changes: Changes due to marriage, divorce, or other legal reasons are allowed with supporting documentation, such as a marriage certificate, divorce decree, or court order.
- Name Order or Prefix/Suffix: Corrections to reverse first and last names or to add/remove prefixes (e.g., Jr., Dr.) or suffixes are permitted, typically with a fee.
- Non-Transferable Tickets: Tickets cannot be transferred to another person; corrections are only for the original passenger.
- Single Correction: Only one name correction is allowed per ticketed reservation, applicable to unused or partially used tickets.
- Eligible Itineraries: Corrections are permitted only for LATAM-operated flights or itineraries involving LATAM and Delta, excluding other codeshare or interline flights.
Process for Name Corrections
Name corrections must be requested through specific channels, as online changes are limited:
- Customer Support: Contact LATAM’s Contact Center via phone with booking details, identification, and supporting documents. This is the primary method for all name corrections.
- Airport Counter: Visit a LATAM ticket counter at the airport with valid ID and documentation. Corrections may be processed before check-in, subject to time constraints.
- Third-Party Bookings: For tickets booked through travel agencies, changes must be requested through the original booking channel, which may involve additional fees.
Fees and Conditions
- Minor corrections of up to three or four characters are free if requested within a one-day period after booking for tickets purchased directly from LATAM in Chile.
- Other corrections incur a fee, which varies by fare type, route, and timing, plus any fare difference if the ticket is reissued. Fees may differ by country, such as within Ecuador, Colombia, Chile, Peru, or Brazil for domestic flights, or for international flights within South America.
- Corrections are not permitted after check-in, for group bookings, or for tickets with special services like unaccompanied minors or pets.
- Corrections must be completed several hours before departure, and only one correction per ticket is allowed.
- For codeshare or interline flights not operated by LATAM (except Delta), the operating carrier’s policy applies.
Important Notes
- Passengers must provide valid identification (e.g., passport) and legal documents for corrections, particularly for legal name changes.
- The name on the ticket must match the government-issued ID exactly to avoid boarding or immigration issues, especially for international flights.
- Requests should be made as early as possible, ideally within a one-day period for free corrections, to ensure processing and avoid higher fees.
- For third-party bookings, coordination with the agency is critical, as LATAM may not process changes directly.
- Check fare rules and contact LATAM’s Contact Center or visit the official website for the latest policy details and fee information.
