Overview
Malindo Air, now rebranded as Batik Air Malaysia, allows passengers to modify flight bookings, including changes to dates, times, or routes, subject to fare rules and availability. Changes must be made at least a few hours before departure to avoid no-show penalties, which result in cancellation of the reservation and loss of ticket value. Fees and fare differences may apply based on fare type, route, and timing. Route changes are permitted, but restrictions may apply to certain flights or promotional fares.
Key Conditions
- Changes are permitted for tickets purchased through Malindo Air’s website, mobile app, contact center, airport ticketing counters, or authorized travel agents. Tickets booked through third parties must be changed via the original booking agent.
- Modifications to codeshare or interline flights (e.g., with Turkish Airlines or Qatar Airways) are subject to the operating airline’s policies.
- Changes must be made at least a few hours before departure, with online changes available via the “Manage Booking” section up to a short time before departure.
- Name corrections of up to three characters with the same pronunciation (e.g., "Jonh" to "John") are free before ticket issuance. After issuance, corrections may incur a fee, while larger amendments (e.g., "Mohd Ali" to "Mohammad Ali") require a higher fee, provided it’s the same person verified by passport or ID. Full name changes or ticket transfers to another person are not permitted.
- Tickets are valid for one year from issuance for wholly unused tickets or from the first travel date for partially used tickets, unless otherwise specified.
24-Hour Change Policy
Passengers can change their booking within one day of purchase without a fee, provided the flight is at least a week away and was booked directly through Malindo Air’s website, app, contact center, or ticketing counters. This applies to most fare types, excluding Super Saver and promotional fares. Fare differences may apply if the new flight is more expensive.
Fare Type Policies
- Super Saver: Changes are not permitted; tickets are non-refundable.
- Economy Basic: Changes incur a fee, with fare differences if the new flight is more expensive. Non-refundable.
- Economy Flexi/Value: No change fees for one-time date change, but fare differences apply if the new flight is more expensive. Refundable under certain conditions.
- Business Promo: Changes incur a fee, with fare differences if applicable. Non-refundable.
- Business Flexi: No change fees for one-time date change, but fare differences apply. Refundable under certain conditions. Lounge access is included at selected stations.
Change Fees
- Fees for Economy Basic and Business Promo fares vary by route (domestic or international) and timing, with higher fees closer to departure.
- Fare differences are charged if the new flight is more expensive; no refund or credit is issued if the new fare is lower.
- Economy Flexi/Value and Business Flexi fares may have no change fees for the first change, but fare differences apply.
- Name corrections post-issuance incur a fee, with higher charges for amendments exceeding three characters, provided it’s the same person.
- Service fees may apply for changes made via contact center or airport counters, charged per passenger per transaction.
- Changes due to medical emergencies, death of a family member, or severe weather may have fees waived with supporting documentation, such as a medical or death certificate.
- For group bookings, up to two passenger name changes are permitted without penalty if requested well in advance of departure. Additional changes incur fees based on route.
How to Change a Flight
Passengers can modify their bookings through the following methods:
- Online: Visit the “Manage Booking” section on the Malindo Air website or app, enter the booking reference and last name, select new flight details, and pay any fees or fare differences. Changes must be made at least a few hours before departure. Some users report technical errors, so alternative methods may be needed.
- Customer Service: Contact the Malindo Air Contact Center via phone or email for assistance, especially for same-day changes, group bookings, or complex itineraries. A service fee may apply.
- In-Person: Visit a Malindo Air airport ticketing counter or city ticketing office to process changes, subject to availability and fees.
- Travel Agency: If booked through a third party, contact the agency to manage changes, which may involve additional fees.
Flight Disruptions
- For cancellations or schedule changes of a few hours or more, passengers can rebook without fees or fare differences within a short period from the original departure date, or request a refund or travel voucher valid for several months. Notifications are sent via email or SMS if contact details are provided.
- Compensation may be provided under applicable regulations for flights within or departing from certain regions, unless disruptions are due to extraordinary circumstances like weather or air traffic control issues.
Additional Notes
- Passengers should review fare rules at booking to understand change restrictions and costs, available in the “Manage Booking” section or booking confirmation.
- Changes to bookings with additional services (e.g., baggage, seats, meals) may require re-selection, as services may not transfer to the new flight.
- Travel vouchers issued for changes are valid for several months, non-transferable, and applicable only to Malindo Air flights.
- Online check-in, available from a couple of days to a few hours before departure, prevents changes or cancellations unless the flight is canceled by Malindo Air.
- Malindo Miles Platinum and Gold members may receive benefits like lounge access or fee waivers for certain fares.
