Mango Airlines Name Change Policy

Overview

Mango Airlines, a South African low-cost carrier and subsidiary of South African Airways, allows name changes on tickets, unlike many airlines that restrict changes to minor corrections. However, the airline has been grounded since July 2021 and entered business rescue, with operations suspended and its license revoked in August 2022. As of June 2025, Mango announced a potential comeback with a new investor, allowing passengers with unflown tickets to claim them via the Mango Voucher Portal. Name changes are subject to fees and conditions, and the process may be affected by the airline’s current status.

Eligibility for Name Changes
  • Minor Spelling Errors: Corrections of typos in the first or last name are permitted, typically free for Mango Plus and Mango Flex members if requested early.
  • Full Name Changes: Unlike most airlines, Mango allows full name changes to transfer a ticket to another person, subject to an administration fee and fare differences, if applicable.
  • Legal Name Changes: Changes due to marriage, divorce, or other legal reasons are permitted with supporting documentation, such as a marriage certificate or court order, and may incur fees.
  • Mango Plus and Flex Members: Members of these fare classes do not incur administration fees for name changes, though fare differences may apply if the original fare is sold out.
  • Non-Transferable Tickets: While tickets are generally non-transferable, Mango’s policy allows name changes for a fee, effectively enabling ticket transfers to another person.
  • Unflown Tickets: Passengers with unflown tickets from before the July 2021 grounding can verify and claim them via the Mango Voucher Portal, but name changes are subject to the airline’s operational status and policies.
Process for Name Changes

Name changes can be requested through the following methods, though availability may be limited due to the airline’s status:

  • Online: Visit the Manage Booking section on the Mango Airlines website or mobile app. Enter the booking reference and date of birth, select the booking, and follow prompts to change the name. Documentation for legal changes may need to be submitted separately.
  • Customer Support: Contact Mango’s Call Centre or email [email protected] with booking details and supporting documents. This is required for legal name changes or complex requests.
  • Airport Counter: Visit a Mango Guest Service counter at the airport with valid ID and documentation. Changes may be processed before check-in, but fees are higher, and availability is not guaranteed.
  • Third-Party Bookings: For tickets booked through travel agencies, changes must be requested through the original booking channel, which may involve additional fees.
Fees and Conditions
  • Name changes via the Mango website or mobile app incur an administration fee per change, plus any fare difference if the original fare is sold out.
  • Name changes via the Call Centre or Guest Service counter at the airport incur a higher administration fee per change, plus any fare difference.
  • Mango Plus and Mango Flex members are exempt from administration fees for name changes, but fare differences may apply.
  • Changes are not permitted after check-in or for partially used tickets. Online check-in closes a few hours before departure, and mobile check-in is unavailable for flights to and from Zanzibar.
  • For unflown tickets claimed via the Mango Voucher Portal, name changes are subject to the airline’s operational status and must be requested before the voucher deadline.
  • Name changes cannot be processed for tickets issued by South African Airways (SAA), even though Mango is a subsidiary, due to system incompatibilities.
Important Notes
  • Passengers must provide valid identification (e.g., passport for international flights, ID for domestic) and legal documents for corrections, particularly for legal name changes.
  • The name on the ticket must match the government-issued ID exactly to avoid boarding issues, especially for international flights to destinations like Zanzibar.
  • Due to Mango’s business rescue and suspended operations, passengers should verify ticket status via the Mango Voucher Portal and act before the deadline to avoid forfeiture.
  • For third-party bookings, coordination with the agency is critical, as Mango may not process changes directly.
