Qantas Airways Baggage Policy
Below is the baggage policy for Qantas Airways, covering carry-on and checked baggage allowances for domestic and international flights, as well as additional fees and restrictions. For the most up-to-date information.
Carry-On Baggage
All passengers (except infants) are entitled to carry-on baggage, subject to the following allowances:
- Domestic Flights (excluding Dash 8 services):
- Option 1: One bag with total dimensions up to 115 cm (45 in) and weight up to 7 kg (15 lbs).
- Option 2: Two bags with total dimensions up to 105 cm (41 in) each, with one up to 10 kg (22 lbs) and total weight up to 14 kg (30 lbs).
- Option 3: One bag (105 cm) and one non-rigid garment bag (185 cm/73 in), total weight up to 14 kg (30 lbs).
- International Flights (excluding North/South America):
- Economy: One bag (56 x 36 x 23 cm, 7 kg) or one non-rigid garment bag (60 x 11 x 114 cm, 7 kg).
- Premium Economy/Business/First: One bag (115 cm, up to 10 kg) or two bags (105 cm each, total 14 kg) or one bag (105 cm) plus one garment bag (185 cm, total 14 kg).
- Flights to/from North/South America:
- Economy: One bag (115 cm, 7 kg) or one garment bag (185 cm, 7 kg).
- Premium Economy/Business/First: Two pieces (each up to 115 cm or one garment bag up to 185 cm, each up to 7 kg).
- Dash 8 Services: One small piece (7 kg) plus a personal item.
- Personal Item: All passengers may bring one small personal item (e.g., handbag, slim laptop bag) to fit under the seat.
Notes:
- Carry-on baggage must fit in overhead lockers or under the seat.
- Prohibited items include inflatable cubes, bed boxes, leg hammocks, and dangerous goods (e.g., lithium batteries over 160Wh).
- Powerbanks, spare batteries, and essential medications must be in carry-on.
- Jetstar flights booked via Qantas have a 7 kg carry-on limit.
Checked Baggage
Checked baggage allowances vary by route, cabin class, and Qantas Frequent Flyer status. No single piece can exceed 32 kg (70 lbs) or 158 cm (62 in) in total dimensions (width + height + depth).

Infant Baggage
- Domestic: No checked allowance, but up to 3 infant items (e.g., stroller, cot, car seat) can be checked free, each up to 32 kg (70 lbs).
- International (North/South America): 1 piece up to 10 kg (22 lbs), max 115 cm (45 in).
- Other International: 10 kg across multiple bags.
Excess Baggage Fees
Excess baggage can be pre-purchased online up to 3 hours before departure, or at the airport (higher rates apply).
- Domestic: A$100 per extra piece; A$50 for items over 23 kg (50 lbs).
- International (North/South America): Up to A$300 per extra piece.
- Other International: Varies by route (e.g., A$20–A$35 per extra piece for select routes).
Note: Excess baggage is subject to space availability. Heavy charges apply for items over 23 kg (50 lbs) at the airport.
Special Items
- Musical Instruments: Carry-on if under 7 kg and within dimensions; otherwise, check-in or purchase an extra seat (max 158 cm in Economy).
- Sporting Equipment: Counts as checked baggage; freight charges may apply for oversized items (e.g., surfboards over 277 cm).
- Mobility Equipment (USA only): No limit for disabled passengers.
