Qantas Airways Flight Change Policy

Qantas Airways offers a flexible flight change policy, allowing passengers to modify bookings under specific conditions, with rules and fees varying by fare type and route. Below is an overview of the flight change policy based on available information.

Online Changes

Passengers who booked directly through the Qantas website or app can modify bookings via the "Manage Booking" section by entering their booking reference and last name. Changes include flight date, time, or seat selection, subject to availability and fare rules. For bookings with multiple passengers, individual changes require separating passengers into new bookings with different references.

Third-Party Bookings

For tickets purchased through travel agents or third-party websites, passengers must contact the issuing agent to request changes. If travel is imminent and the agent is unavailable, contacting a Qantas office is an option, though service fees may apply.

Change Fees

Changes made by midnight on the booking day are free under the "Same Day No Mistake" policy, provided the flight is at least a day away, though fare differences may apply. Beyond this period, fees vary by fare type (Economy, Premium Economy, Business, First) and route (domestic or international). Economy fares like Saver or Sale have higher fees, while Flex or Business fares may allow free changes. Additional service fees apply for changes made via Qantas Contact Centres, airports, web chat, or social media, but not for online changes. No fees apply for Business or First class changes. Classic Flight Rewards and Classic Plus Flight Rewards incur fees per passenger, with additional points or cash required based on availability.

Fare Differences

If the new flight is more expensive, passengers must pay the fare difference. No refund is provided if the new fare is lower, unless specified by fare rules. For Flight Credits, passengers can use credits across multiple bookings, but fare differences may apply.

Time Limits

Changes can be made up to a few hours before departure, subject to availability. Same-day changes are available for domestic flights, subject to a fee and availability, except for Basic Economy fares. Changes to Classic Flight Rewards or Points Plus Pay bookings may require contacting Qantas directly, especially for routes like Hong Kong or Vancouver.

Destination Changes

Destination changes are permitted for certain fare types, subject to availability, fare differences, and change fees. Passengers may need to request a Flight Credit first, which can be used for a new itinerary, with applicable fees and differences paid.

Name Changes

Name changes are not permitted, except for minor corrections like spelling errors, which may incur a fee if not requested within a day of booking. Tickets are non-transferable to other passengers.

Airline-Initiated Changes

If Qantas cancels or significantly changes a flight (more than a few hours before departure), passengers can rebook on the next available Qantas flight or a partner airline like Emirates at no cost, or request a Flight Credit or refund without fees. Assistance such as accommodation, transport, or meal vouchers may be provided for significant delays, per the Compensation and Refunds Policy. Notifications are sent via email or SMS if contact details are provided.

How to Change Your Flight

Passengers can modify bookings through the following methods:

  • Online: Access "Manage Booking" on the Qantas website or app, enter booking details, select new flight options, and pay any applicable fees.
  • Offline: Contact a Qantas Contact Centre, visit an airport counter, or use web chat or social media channels, noting additional service fees may apply.
Additional Notes
  • Passengers should check fare rules at booking, as conditions vary by fare type and route (domestic or international).
  • Flight Credits are valid for future travel and can be used across multiple bookings, with terms applying based on the original fare.
  • For codeshare flights or bookings with partner airlines like Emirates, changes may follow the operating carrier’s policies.
  • Qantas Frequent Flyer members must be logged in to change Classic or Classic Plus Flight Reward bookings online, with additional points or cash potentially required.
