Qantas Airways Name Change Policy

Overview

Qantas Airways allows minor name corrections for tickets but restricts complete name changes or ticket transfers to another person, except for specific domestic fare types. The policy distinguishes between name corrections for minor errors and name changes for transferring ticket credit to another traveler.

Key Policy Details
  • Name Corrections: Permitted for minor errors, such as spelling mistakes, transposed names, or title adjustments, up to a limited number of characters. No service fee applies for these corrections, even after a grace period following booking. Supporting documentation, such as a passport or marriage certificate, may be required for legal name changes due to marriage or divorce.
  • Name Changes: Allowed only for specific Australian domestic retail and corporate fares, where the original traveler is no longer traveling, and the unused ticket value is used as credit toward a new ticket in another person’s name. A name change fee applies, and the new ticket must be of equal or higher value. Name changes are not permitted for international tickets or reward bookings.
  • Restrictions: Name corrections for bookings with codeshare or interline flights, except Jetstar Group flights, require creating a new booking, as corrections cannot be made directly. Tickets must be wholly unused, within validity, and requested before travel begins.
  • Documentation: For legal name changes or corrections exceeding minor errors, passengers must provide valid identification or legal documents, such as a marriage certificate or court order.
  • Bookings via Third Parties: For tickets booked through travel agents or third-party platforms, name corrections or changes must be processed through the original booking provider.
How to Make Name Corrections or Changes

Name corrections or changes can be made through the following methods:

  • Online: Visit the Qantas Airways website, access the Manage Booking section, enter the booking reference and last name, select the option to correct the name, make the necessary changes, and upload supporting documents if required. For name changes, a new booking must be created, and the original booking canceled after approval. A confirmation email with the updated ticket will be sent.
  • Customer Service: Contact Qantas Agency Connect or customer support, provide the booking reference and passenger details, and request the correction or change. Submit required documents, and pay any applicable fees. A confirmation email will be sent upon completion.
  • At the Airport: Visit a Qantas ticketing desk at the airport, provide the booking reference and identification documents, and request the correction or change. Fees may apply, and a confirmation email will be sent.
Important Notes
  • Name corrections are free if made within a short period after booking, typically until midnight on the booking day, for tickets booked directly through Qantas. After this period, fees may apply for name changes or significant corrections.
  • Name corrections must be completed before check-in, ideally well before departure, to avoid boarding issues. For name changes, requests must be made before travel begins.
  • The name on the ticket must match the traveler’s passport or government-issued ID exactly to comply with security and regulatory requirements.
  • For bookings involving Jetstar Group flights, corrections can be made without prior authority, but for other codeshare or interline flights, a new booking is required.
  • Reward bookings, especially with partner airlines, have stricter rules, and name changes are generally not permitted, requiring cancellation and rebooking if feasible.
