Royal Air Maroc (RAM), the national carrier of Morocco, has a cancellation policy that varies by fare type, booking method, and applicable regulations, including U.S. DOT rules for U.S.-related flights and EU Regulation (EC) 261/2004 for EU/UK departures.
24-Hour Cancellation Policy:
- You can cancel any flight booked directly through Royal Air Maroc’s website (www.royalairmaroc.com), mobile app, or ticket office within 24 hours of booking for a full refund, including taxes and fees, provided the flight departs at least 7 days later (168 hours or more). This applies to both refundable and non-refunded fares, aligning with U.S. DOT regulations for U.S.-related bookings.
- Refunds are issued to the original payment method (e.g., credit card, cash, or Safar Flyer miles for Cash & Miles tickets) without penalty.
General Cancellation Rules:
- Refundable Fares (e.g., Eco Serenity, Business Serenity): These can be canceled or modified without charges, offering flexibility for cancellations at any time before departure. Refunds include the full fare and taxes.
- Non-Refunded Fares (e.g., Eco Essential, Eco Classic, Business Essential): Cancellations after the 24-hour window incur fees, and passengers may need to pay the total fare as a cancellation charge, depending on the fare rules. Only taxes/fees may be refunded.
- Partially Used Tickets: Refunds are not permitted for partially used tickets (e.g., if you’ve flown one leg of a round-trip).
- Cash & Miles Tickets: Refundable only if the fare is refundable and the ticket is unused. Miles are credited back to the Safar Flyer account, and the cash portion is refunded to the original payment method, subject to a penalty based on fare conditions.
- No-Show: If you fail to cancel before departure, the ticket value is forfeited, and no refund is issued, except for taxes/fees in some cases.
- Cancellation Deadline: Cancellations must be requested before departure, typically via the Call Center, ticket office, or online claim form.
Special Circumstances:
- Medical Emergencies or Bereavement: Refunds or fee waivers may be granted for medical emergencies or death of a passenger/close family member, with documentation (e.g., medical certificate, death certificate).
- COVID-19 or Geopolitical Disruptions: For cancellations due to restrictions, RAM offers refunds or travel credits. Refunds are preferred over vouchers due to limited validity (e.g., 12–24 months).
- Third-Party Bookings: Cancellations must be processed through the agent (e.g., Expedia, Kayak), and the 24-hour policy may not apply. Contact the agent directly, as additional fees may be charged.
- Missed Connections: If a missed connection is due to RAM’s delay, their oneworld alliance may provide a new flight or accommodation if the next flight is the following day. Eligible for EC 261/2004 compensation for EU/UK departures.
Refund Processing:
- Refunds for credit card payments are processed within 7 days; other methods (e.g., cash, check) take up to 20 days. Delays up to 6–8 weeks have been reported during high-demand periods.
- Refunds are issued to the original payment method. For Cash & Miles tickets, miles return to the Safar Flyer account, and cash is refunded minus penalties.
- Travel credits, if offered, have limited validity and are non-transferable.
