Ryanair Baggage Policy
Below is the baggage policy for Ryanair, covering carry-on and checked baggage allowances, fees, and restrictions for 2025. For the latest information. Note: Ryanair’s policies are strictly enforced, and non-compliance may result in additional fees.
Carry-On Baggage
All passengers are entitled to bring one small personal bag for free, with additional options available for purchase.
- Small Personal Bag (Free):
- Dimensions: Up to 40 x 30 x 20 cm (previously 40 x 25 x 20 cm, updated in 2025).
- Must fit under the seat in front of you.
- Examples: Handbag, laptop bag, or small backpack.
- No stated weight limit, but it may be checked if it appears oversized or heavy.
- Priority & 2 Cabin Bags (Paid):
- Includes the small personal bag (40 x 30 x 20 cm) plus one larger cabin bag.
- Larger cabin bag: Up to 55 x 40 x 20 cm, max 10 kg, fits in the overhead locker.
- Also includes Priority Boarding for early boarding access.
- If sold out, you can add a 10 kg check-in bag instead (see below).
- Non-priority passengers with a larger cabin bag may have it placed in the hold for a fee if it doesn’t fit in baggage sizers.
- Infants (8 days to 23 months):
- No cabin bag allowance, but a baby bag up to 45 x 35 x 20 cm (max 5 kg) is allowed for babies on an adult’s lap.
- Two free baby equipment items (e.g., pushchair, car seat, travel cot) per child.
- Children (2–11 years):
- May bring a carry-on bag that exceeds the small bag dimensions (e.g., Trunki suitcase), but exact sizes are not specified by Ryanair.
- Duty-Free Bags: Permitted in the cabin alongside your hand baggage.
- Special Items:
- Medical equipment (e.g., EpiPens, inhalers, diabetic supplies) can be carried without counting toward cabin bag dimensions.
- Defibrillators require a medical equipment baggage waiver and a “fit to fly” form.
- Ashes are allowed in cabin bags with a death and cremation certificate, securely packaged in a screw-top container.
- Self-inflating life jackets (with 2 CO2 cylinders plus 2 spares) and avalanche rescue packs (with 1 nitrogen/air cylinder) are permitted in cabin or checked baggage.
Notes:
- Bags are checked using baggage sizers at the gate. Oversized bags will be refused or placed in the hold for a fee (per Ryanair’s Table of Fees).
- Liquids, aerosols, and gels must comply with EU security requirements (e.g., in a transparent bag, removed for screening). Infant milk/food and liquid medicine are exempt from the liquid limit but must be ready for inspection.
- Smart bags with removable lithium batteries are allowed if the battery is removed and kept with you. Non-removable battery bags are prohibited.
