Silver Airways Baggage Policy

Silver Airways Baggage Policy

Important Notice: Silver Airways ceased operations on June 11, 2025, following bankruptcy and asset sale to Wexford Capital, who discontinued flight operations. The baggage policy below reflects the last known details prior to closure, based on available information from 2025. For further inquiries, contact your booking agent or credit card provider for refunds.

Carry-On Baggage

Each passenger was allowed one carry-on bag and one personal item, subject to strict size and weight restrictions due to the small overhead bins on Silver Airways’ ATR and Saab 340B aircraft.

  • Carry-On Bag:
    • Dimensions: Max 22 x 14 x 9 in (56 x 36 x 23 cm, 45 linear inches), including handles and wheels.
    • Weight: Max 30 lbs (13.6 kg).
    • Note: Carry-on bags exceeding size limits were valet-checked at the gate (returned upon arrival) for a fee if not within allowance.
  • Personal Item:
    • Dimensions: Max 18 x 14 x 8 in (46 x 36 x 20 cm).
    • Examples: Purse, laptop bag, briefcase, small backpack.
    • Must fit under the seat in front of the passenger.
  • Additional Items:
    • Jackets, umbrellas, duty-free items, and assistive devices (e.g., wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, strollers, child restraint seats) did not count toward carry-on limits.
    • Medical equipment (e.g., CPAP machines, portable oxygen concentrators) was allowed in carry-on with prior approval.
  • Notes:
    • Liquids, aerosols, and gels: Max 100 ml per container in a 1-quart resealable bag, per TSA regulations.
    • Prohibited items included flammables, explosives, and lithium batteries over 160Wh. Smart luggage with non-removable batteries was not permitted.
    • Due to small aircraft, carry-on bags were often valet-checked at the gate, especially during high season (holidays, spring break, peak summer) due to weight and balance issues.
Checked Baggage

Checked baggage allowances varied by fare type and destination. No single bag could exceed 50 lbs (23 kg) or 80 linear inches (203 cm) without incurring fees.

Fare Type Allowance Dimensions Notes
Escape (Basic Economy) 1 piece, up to 50 lbs (23 kg) Max 80 in (203 cm) Domestic and international routes.
Freedom/Refundable 2 pieces, each up to 50 lbs (23 kg) Max 80 in (203 cm) Domestic and international routes.
Infants (Under 2 Years, No Seat) 1 collapsible stroller or baby carrier Not specified Free, not counted in allowance.

Additional Notes:

  • Connecting Flights: For itineraries with United, American, or JetBlue, the first carrier’s baggage policy might apply. United MileagePlus Premier members, credit cardholders, or premium cabin passengers could have fees waived.
  • Voluntary Separation: Bags exceeding the 2-piece limit (up to 10 allowed) were loaded on a standby basis and tagged as “Voluntary Separation,” requiring passengers to retrieve them at the destination airport.
  • Codeshare Flights: Singapore Airlines or other partner policies might apply for codeshare bookings.

    • In cargo: Larger pets in approved crates, $95 one-way, treated as checked baggage.
    • Service animals: Free in cabin with prior approval.
  • Mobility Equipment: Wheelchairs, walkers, and other assistive devices were free, not counted in allowance, with no weight limit.
Lost, Damaged, or Delayed Baggage
  • Passengers had to report issues at the airport’s Lost and Found desk to obtain a Property Irregularity Report (PIR).
  • Delayed bags required a claim submission via an online form or at the airport to be eligible for expense reimbursement.
  • Claims followed Montreal Convention limits (7 days for damage, 21 days for delay, up to 1,131 SDRs for loss).
  • Delayed bags were trackable online using a provided ID number.
Additional Notes
  • Due to the ATR fleet’s weight and balance constraints, bags were sometimes removed during high season and sent on the next available flight. Passengers were responsible for retrieving delayed bags at the destination airport.
  • Fragile or valuable items were recommended for carry-on to avoid damage.
  • Pre-purchasing baggage fees online via “Manage My Booking” was advised to avoid higher airport rates.
  • Passengers were encouraged to check route-specific policies, as variations existed for codeshare partners like United, JetBlue, and American Airlines.
