  • Golf bags (max. 23 kg) are free if they replace a checked bag.
Musical Instruments

Small instruments can be carried as cabin baggage if within size/weight limits. Larger instruments may require an extra seat or be checked in a hard case, subject to fees.

Pets

Pets (dogs, cats, household birds) are allowed in the cabin or as checked baggage, subject to IATA Live Animal Regulations.

  • Cabin: $125 one-way (domestic Suriname flights); $200 one-way (international). Pets must fit in a carrier under the seat, counting as carry-on luggage.
  • Checked: Requires prior arrangement and appropriate travel documents/health certificates.
Prohibited Items

Certain items are restricted or prohibited for safety reasons.

  • Prohibited in carry-on: Firearms, replicas, knives, sharp objects, blunt instruments, lighters.
  • Prohibited in checked baggage: Lithium-ion/metal batteries as spares, items that interfere with aircraft equipment (e.g., radios, portable phones).
  • Passengers must not carry items from strangers. Refusal to undergo security inspection results in denied boarding.
Lost, Damaged, or Delayed Baggage

Surinam Airways offers limited liability for baggage issues under the Montreal or Warsaw Conventions.

  • Delayed Baggage: Report at the airport’s Lost and Found. Blue Ribbon Bags service ($5 USD, available in Suriname) tracks lost baggage for 96 hours. File a report within 24 hours.
  • Damaged Baggage: Report at the airport. Liability excludes fragile items, valuables, or damage due to overpacking.
  • Lost Baggage: Unclaimed baggage is held for 90 days. Compensation is limited (approx. $20/kg under Warsaw Convention or 1,288 SDR under Montreal Convention).
Additional Notes
  • Baby carriages/buggies are allowed if kept with the passenger. Wheelchairs and mobility devices are exempt from baggage fees.
  • Check-in: Online 24–2 hours before departure; airport check-in starts 180 minutes before departure and closes 90 minutes prior for Business Class/online check-in.
  • Most Significant Carrier (MSC) rule: For interline flights, the airline operating the longest stretch determines baggage rules, except for USA routes.
  • Fragile or valuable items (e.g., jewelry, money) in checked baggage are at the passenger’s risk.
  • Verify baggage details on your e-ticket or contact Surinam Airways for specific routes and restrictions.
