Thai Airways Flight Change Policy

Thai Airways, the flag carrier of Thailand, offers a flexible flight change policy allowing passengers to modify bookings under specific conditions, with rules and fees varying by fare type, route, and timing. Below is an overview of the flight change policy based on available information.

Online Changes

Passengers who booked directly through the Thai Airways website or mobile app can modify bookings via the "My Booking" section by entering their booking reference and last name. Changes include flight date, time, or seat selection, and must be made at least a few hours before departure, subject to availability and fare rules.

Third-Party Bookings

For tickets purchased through travel agents or third-party platforms, passengers must contact the issuing agent to request changes, as direct modifications through Thai Airways are not permitted.

Fare Types and Change Rules

Thai Airways offers various fare types, such as Economy Saver, Economy Flexi, Business, and Royal First, each with distinct change policies:

  • Economy Saver: Changes incur a fee per person per segment, plus fare differences, with specific fees depending on the fare basis.
  • Economy Flexi: Changes incur a lower fee, with some flexibility in rebooking.
  • Business and Royal First: Changes may be free or incur a fee, depending on the fare basis, with greater flexibility for rebooking.
  • Royal Orchid Plus Award Tickets: Changes to date or flight number incur a fee, waived for PPS Club members if changed before departure. Route or cabin class changes are not permitted for partially used tickets.
Change Fees

Changes made within a day of booking are free if the flight is at least a week away, particularly for flights to or from the USA. Beyond this period, fees apply based on fare type and route, with higher fees for changes made via the Contact Centre, airport counters, or offline services compared to online changes. No-show fees apply if changes are not made before departure. Additional service charges may apply for offline changes, and fare differences are required if the new flight is more expensive.

Fare Differences

If the new flight is more expensive, passengers must pay the fare difference in addition to any change fee. No refund is provided if the new fare is lower, unless specified by fare rules. For Royal Orchid Plus award tickets, a top-up of miles may be required.

Time Limits

Changes must be made at least a few hours before departure, with a minimum of several minutes for online changes. Tickets are valid for one year from issuance, with some fare types valid for a shorter period. Changes must occur within this validity period, and no changes are permitted after departure.

Destination Changes

Passengers can change the departure city within the same country as the original booking, subject to availability, a fee, and fare differences. Route changes require contacting a Thai Airways office for ticket reissuance before departure. Destination changes are not permitted for Royal Orchid Plus award tickets after travel has begun.

Name Changes

Full name changes or ticket transfers to another person are not permitted. Minor name corrections, such as format adjustments, are allowed with a fee, provided the request is made within a day of booking for free or before check-in with a fee. Non-refundable tickets do not allow name changes, and passengers altering family names may face a fee equivalent to the full ticket price.

Special Circumstances

In cases of a passenger’s or immediate family member’s death, change fees may be waived with valid documentation, such as a death certificate, provided the route remains unchanged. If Thai Airways cancels or significantly delays a flight, passengers can rebook on the next available flight without fees or request a full refund. Notifications are sent via email or SMS if contact details are provided.

How to Change Your Flight

Passengers can modify bookings through the following methods:

  • Online: Access "My Booking" on the Thai Airways website or app, enter booking details, select new flight options, and pay any applicable fees.
  • Offline: Contact a Thai Airways office, call the Contact Centre, or visit an airport ticket counter, noting additional service charges may apply.
Additional Notes
  • Passengers should review fare rules at booking, as conditions vary by fare type and route.
  • Royal Orchid Plus members may earn miles based on fare type, with reduced or no accrual on codeshare or partner airline flights.
  • For codeshare or interline flights, changes must align with the operating carrier’s policies.
  • Tickets can be held as travel credit for up to two years from booking, with an additional bonus percentage, allowing changes to date or destination without restriction.
