Tiger Airways Flight Change Policy

Important Notice: Tiger Airways, operating as Tigerair, has ceased operations. Tigerair Singapore merged with Scoot in July 2017, and Tigerair Australia was retired by Virgin Australia in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The information below reflects the flight change policy for Tigerair prior to its cessation, based on available information.

Online Changes

Passengers who booked through the Tigerair website could modify bookings via the "Manage My Booking" section by entering their booking reference and surname. Changes included flight date, time, or route, subject to availability and fare rules.

Third-Party Bookings

For tickets purchased through travel agents or third-party platforms, passengers were required to contact the issuing agent to request changes. For Tigerair Australia bookings, changes through Virgin Australia’s Guest Relations were possible if the agent authorized it, though additional fees applied.

Fare Types and Change Rules

Tigerair offered fare types such as Economy and tigerflexi (Taiwan), with varying change policies:

  • Economy: Changes incurred a fee per person per segment, plus fare differences.
  • tigerflexi (Tigerair Taiwan): An optional add-on allowed one free change to date or time per itinerary, with fare differences applied.
Change Fees

Changes made within a day of booking were free if the flight was at least a day away. Beyond this period, a fee was charged per person per segment, with higher fees for changes made via the Customer Contact Centre or airport compared to online. The tigerflexi add-on (Tigerair Taiwan) waived the change fee for one itinerary change, but fare differences applied. Additional service charges were incurred for offline changes. Changes had to be made at least a couple of hours before departure for domestic flights to avoid forfeiture of the ticket value.

Fare Differences

If the new flight was more expensive, passengers paid the fare difference in addition to any change fee. No refund was provided if the new fare was lower.

Time Limits

Changes could be made up to a couple of hours before departure for domestic flights, or slightly earlier for international flights, subject to availability. No changes were permitted after check-in or departure.

Destination Changes

Route changes were permitted up to a couple of hours before departure, subject to a change fee and fare differences. Passengers could not change the origin or destination after the outbound flight of a round-trip was flown.

Name Changes

Name changes were allowed up to a couple of hours before departure for domestic flights, or slightly earlier for international flights, with a fee per passenger per segment. Minor spelling corrections were free within a day of booking if the flight was at least a day away. Fees were higher for changes made via the Contact Centre or airport. Passengers could sell tickets to others through platforms like SpareFare, incurring a name change fee.

Airline-Initiated Changes

If Tigerair canceled or rescheduled a flight by more than a few hours, passengers could rebook on another flight within a couple of weeks of the original date at no cost, subject to availability, or request a refund of government taxes only, as fares were non-refundable. Refunds were available in special circumstances, such as bereavement, with supporting documentation. For Tigerair Australia, passengers with affected bookings were offered Future Flight credits by Virgin Australia, usable for Virgin Australia flights.

How to Change Your Flight

Before operations ceased, passengers could modify bookings through the following methods:

  • Online: Access "Manage My Booking" on the Tigerair website, enter booking details, select new flight options, and pay any applicable fees.
  • Offline: Contact the Tigerair Customer Contact Centre or visit an airport counter, noting additional service charges could apply.
Additional Notes
  • Passengers were advised to review fare rules at booking, as conditions varied by fare type and route.
  • Tigerair Taiwan’s tigerflexi service allowed one free change per itinerary, enhancing flexibility for passengers.
  • For codeshare flights or bookings with partner airlines like Mandala or SEAir, changes had to align with the operating carrier’s policies.
  • Passengers were notified of flight changes via SMS or email to ensure a seamless experience.
