Overview
Volotea, a Spanish low-cost airline, allows minor name corrections and full name changes to transfer tickets to another person for most fare types, except for flights operated by partner airlines. The policy ensures the name on the ticket matches the traveler’s passport or government-issued ID for security and compliance purposes. Name changes are subject to fees and must be requested before check-in, with additional flexibility for Flex plan holders.
Key Policy Details
- Minor name corrections, such as fixing typos or adjusting the first, middle, or last name (up to three letters), are permitted to align with the traveler’s passport or ID. These corrections incur a fee, even for spelling errors, unless covered by the Flex plan.
- Full name changes to transfer a ticket to another person are allowed for standard fare tickets, but not for flights operated by partner airlines. A fee is charged per passenger per segment, plus any fare difference if the new ticket is more expensive. No refunds are issued if the new fare is lower.
- Legal name changes, such as those due to marriage or divorce, are permitted with supporting documents like a marriage certificate, divorce decree, or court order, subject to the same fees as other name changes.
- Name changes are only permitted for Volotea-operated flights (ticket numbers starting with V7) and not for codeshare flights or flights operated by partner airlines, unless specified in the booking agreement.
- Bookings made through travel agents or third-party platforms must have name changes processed through the original booking provider, not directly with Volotea.
- The name on the ticket must exactly match the traveler’s passport or ID, using Latin characters without special symbols, to avoid boarding issues, especially for international flights to destinations like Venice, Bordeaux, or Athens. Only one name correction per booking is allowed.
- Name changes must be requested at least four hours before departure for Flex plan holders or seven days before departure for standard fares. Changes are not permitted after check-in or once the journey has commenced.
- The Flex plan allows unlimited flight changes up to four hours before departure without additional fees, but name changes still incur a fee unless specified otherwise.
How to Make Name Changes or Corrections
Name changes or corrections can be made through the following methods:
- Online: Visit the Volotea website, access the Your Booking section, enter the booking reference and email address or last name, select the option to edit passenger details, make the correction or name change, upload required documents if needed, and pay any applicable fees. A confirmation email with the updated ticket will be sent, and passengers must re-download and print new boarding passes.
- Customer Service: Contact Volotea’s Customer Service Centre via phone or social media, provide the booking reference and passenger details, request the correction or name change, and submit necessary documents, such as a passport or marriage certificate. Fees apply, and a confirmation email with the updated ticket will be sent.
- In-Person: Visit a Volotea ticket counter at the airport at least four hours before departure, provide the booking reference and identification documents, and request the correction or name change. Higher fees apply compared to online or call center requests, and a confirmation email will be sent.
- Travel Agency: For bookings made through a travel agency, contact the agency directly to request the correction or name change, provide required documents, and pay any applicable fees. The agency will coordinate with Volotea.
Important Notes
- Name changes or corrections must be requested at least four hours before departure for Flex plan holders or seven days before departure for standard fares. Changes are not permitted after check-in or once the journey has started.
- Fees for name changes are charged per person per segment, higher at the airport than online or via the call center. Additional fare differences apply if the new ticket is more expensive. The Flex plan does not waive name change fees.
- Passengers must ensure the name matches their passport or ID exactly to comply with security regulations, particularly for international flights. For passengers with single names or names exceeding character limits, specific formatting rules may apply, and assistance from customer service may be required.
- For legal name changes, original or certified copies of supporting documents must be provided for verification.
- Passengers with bookings through third-party platforms should contact their booking agent promptly, as Volotea may not process changes directly for such reservations.
- Only one name correction is allowed per booking, emphasizing the need for accuracy during the initial reservation process. Passengers must re-download and print boarding passes after any changes.
