Wizzair Name Change Policy

Overview

Wizz Air, a European low-cost airline, allows one free minor name correction per booking for typos or specific adjustments and permits full name changes to transfer tickets to another person for a fee. The policy ensures the name on the ticket matches the traveler’s passport or government-issued ID for security and compliance purposes. Changes must be requested at least three hours before departure, and fees may apply depending on fare type and method of request.

Key Policy Details
  • One free name correction per booking is allowed online for minor changes, such as fixing typos (up to three characters in the first or last name), extending an abbreviated name (e.g., John T. Smith to John Thomas Smith), correcting gender, or swapping first and last names, to align with the traveler’s passport or ID. Additional corrections or changes via the Call Centre incur a fee, except for specific cases like maiden-to-married name changes with documentation.
  • Full name changes to transfer a ticket to another person are permitted for a fee per passenger per flight segment, applicable to all fare types, including WIZZ Discount Club or Privilege Pass bookings. No fare difference is charged for name changes.
  • Legal name changes, such as those due to marriage, divorce, or gender change, are free with supporting documents like a marriage certificate or court order when processed via the Call Centre or Live Chat.
  • Name changes are only permitted for Wizz Air-operated flights (ticket numbers starting with 230) and not for codeshare flights or flights operated by partner airlines, unless specified in the booking agreement.
  • Bookings made through travel agents or third-party platforms must have name changes processed through the original booking provider, not directly with Wizz Air, and additional agency fees may apply.
  • The name on the ticket must match the traveler’s passport or ID exactly, using Latin characters without special symbols (e.g., Ñ, É, Ü, Ç), as per the machine-readable line of the passport. Middle names and titles are optional but must match the ID if included.
  • Name changes or corrections must be completed at least three hours before departure and are not permitted after check-in. After a name change, passengers must check in again and download or print a new boarding pass.
  • The free name correction option is not available for WIZZ Discount Club members or WIZZ Privilege Pass holders for their first correction; a fee applies unless it’s a legal name change with documentation.
How to Make Name Changes or Corrections

Name changes or corrections can be made through the following methods:

  • Online: Log in to your WIZZ Account on the Wizz Air website or mobile app, select the booking under Details, click Make Changes in the Booking Overview, choose Change passenger details, enter the new name, and submit. Free corrections (e.g., typos up to three characters) redirect to the itinerary page; other changes redirect to a payment page for the applicable fee. A confirmation email with the updated ticket is sent, and a new boarding pass must be downloaded.
  • Customer Service: Contact Wizz Air’s Call Centre or Live Chat, provide the booking reference and passenger details, request the correction or name change, and submit necessary documents, such as a passport or marriage certificate. A name change fee and Call Centre transaction fee may apply, except for free corrections like first/last name swaps or legal name changes with documentation. A confirmation email is sent.
  • In-Person: Visit a Wizz Air sales outlet or airport check-in counter at least three hours before departure, provide the booking reference and identification documents, and request the correction or name change. Higher fees apply compared to online requests, and a confirmation email is sent.
  • Travel Agency: For bookings made through a travel agency, contact the agency directly to request the correction or name change, provide required documents, and pay any applicable fees. The agency will coordinate with Wizz Air.
Important Notes
  • Name changes or corrections must be completed at least three hours before departure, as changes are not permitted after check-in or once the journey has started. Passengers must re-check in and download a new boarding pass after any change.
  • Fees for name changes vary by fare type and channel, with a standard fee per passenger per flight segment for full name changes, plus a Call Centre transaction fee if not done online. Free corrections are limited to one per booking for specific minor changes, and legal name changes with documentation are free via the Call Centre.
  • Passengers must ensure the name matches their passport or ID exactly, using Latin characters, to comply with security regulations, especially for international flights to destinations like London, Budapest, or Dubai. Wizz Air may request proof of identity if there’s doubt about the requester.
  • For legal name changes, original or certified copies of supporting documents must be provided for verification.
  • Passengers with bookings through third-party platforms should contact their booking agent promptly, as Wizz Air may not process changes directly for such reservations.
  • WIZZ Flex does not cover name change fees, only flight date, time, or destination changes. WIZZ Discount Club or Privilege Pass holders may face additional restrictions on free corrections.
